so what if it’s just---pork that hurts them?? because bologna hurt zim first time he touched it--but also ribs hurt him too when tak threw it at him. though many could say that it was just the bbq sauce, but i dunno----

anyway, that’s my headcanon for the day.

i don’t believe that ian is afraid of heights so to speak, sure it might SEEM like he is when he starts ‘falling’ down the crevasse, but in my opinion i believe he’s more afraid of the fact of falling for eternity. because you can see just how much he doesn’t mind being up so high the moment that barley brings him back up and tells him that he’s still alive. 

and the fact that he gets over the fear he has the MOMENT he steps onto his bridge. being someone with a fear of heights myself i would still be afraid of such things even if i believe in myself that there was a bridge to hold me up--hell--i’m afraid of rock walls even though i have a harness on me. even LADDERS scare the shit out of me, alright??? 

so i don’t believe it’s the height that ian is afraid of because also the fact that he sits near a cliffs edge with his father near the end of the movie--if he were afraid of heights he wouldn’t have gotten over it so quickly in my opinion. 

so takes me back to my thought that he’s more afraid of falling forever. he rants that he’s going to die all the while that barley pulls him up and i don’t believe it’s because of the heights or that he’ll hit the ground and die, i think it’s he believes that he’s going to keep falling until he eventually dies and that scares him. because he’d be alone falling forever and that’s what scares him the most. 

even though he seems to be socially awkward, as are most teens, he wants to belong, he wants friends, he wants people who accept him--so dying alone is something he fears more than anything in the world. 

lets talk about ian’s fear of driving for a moment. i’m going to headcanon that it derives from a horrible memory where he got in some sort of car accident or was very close to getting into one, he could still remember the sounds of sirens after it happened, and how the other students were panicked as well. the near death experience left him with the fear of getting inside of a car--and especially driving on the freeway. 

he didn’t have barley when he got in the car accident, so that’s what makes me think that it was easier for him to merge on the freeway with barley next to him. he felt safe with his brother, he knew that with him he would be alright--and that’s what got him to steer the van onto the freeway and merge into traffic--albeit with a bit of screaming, but he did it!
