darkness.
darkness...and pain. the only two sensations he remembers from home are awful ones; they had constantly assaulted his senses until he woke up in this foreign land, dazed and confused by the unfamiliar surroundings. the harsh smell of destruction makes him wrinkle his nose as he once again steps outside, intent on returning to the very place he woke up at: the edge of a large, bottomless pit.
wide blue eyes take in every sight as he makes his way back, head turning this way and that, mind trying to process the overload of information. mechanical carriages zoomed past on tar black roads and citizens hurried on past him, giving him nary a thought as they go about their day. no one had any concern for a young child all alone? he supposes all adults are the same, no matter where he goes...
he arrives before the hole at last, cautious as he approaches the edge. he glances around wildly, as though afraid someone might come up behind him and give him a shove. upon seeing no one, however, Alois peers over the side and down into the inky darkness.
I’m scared--!
his own voice rings out in his mind as fear seizes him, freezing his body in place. arms immediately wrap around himself in an embrace as his eyes fill to the brim with tears. he shakes, knees wobbling as he forces himself to take a few steps backwards. he manages to put a good distance between himself and the edge before falling to his knees, curling in on himself like a newborn babe.
“No...No, please...” he murmurs, tears dripping onto the pavement beneath him. “You said you would never leave me alone... Please, Claude--
Where are you?”
