Before I begin...I hate myself for the title too. -------------------------------------------- It was one of those days. One of the days where you think back on your previous experiences and think "Damn, I dodged a bullet with that one." For a very unfortunate person like Dean those days were few and far between. However, now that he was alone in the house, Cas having taken their daughter Celeste off to soccer practice, he had time to think. It was back when Dean and Cas were trying to prevent the apocalypse that this had happened. That Famine, one of the four great horseman had taken pity on him, or he had been extremely lucky. Famine had told him that he had not been affected by hunger because he was already dead inside. Dean knew that it hadn't been true. Dean had felt that hunger. Strong and gnawing and persistent. He hadn't acted on it for one reason and one reason alone. He had just enough to stave off the madness. Just enough proverbial nutrients not to starve. Dean knew the truth then and there that Famine had just sharpened a need he'd already been curious about. What had Dean needed? Cas. He'd always needed Cas. Dean probably owed getting the ring to Cas being there to keep him alive. By some insane luck he'd dodged the bullet and found the truth. To be honest it hurt when Cas was hungry for meat of all things, but that was due to the vessel. If that hadn't been so...dean often wondered if he and Cas would have shared a similar...diet. So it had been one of those days. But it didn't bring sad memories. It brought a snapshot into what had really tipped Dean off. What had allowed him to ease into this life. And yeah. His life had sucked some major balls. But it had brought him Cas and their daughter and the life they were building. So maybe Dean owed Famine a great deal more than just helping him save the world.
