The Haunted Somerset Coastline.. North Somerset has a unique coastline which has spectacular seascapes and beautiful rural countryside and moorland. Spanning the length of the Bristol Channel. As expected it has its fair share of ghost stories and strange unexplained sightings and phenomena.
**Minehead- There is the tale of Mother Leakey who was supposed to have been a witch and was said to 'whistle up the wind', there was also a story of a phantom plane crash witnessed off the coast which vanished into thin air.
**Porlock - The Bay Beach, three men who were ship wreaked and drowned are said to walk into the marshes and vanish where they were buried. The Ship Inn, is reputed to be haunted by a female spirit. Porlock Weir has a tale of Lucott.. Berry Castle has an air of unease and people feel eyes upon them and hear disembodied voices. Porlock Hill has many reports of black shucks, a woman in white, and the spirits of two Sedgemoor rebels who were hung there.
**Watchet - a phantom ghost train and galleon ship, a strange and eerie tale at St Decumans Church involving Lady Wyndham, Rose Cottage, is said to have several spirits one possibly being a smuggler. Bell Inn - the spirits of several children thought to have tragically lost their lives there.
**Weston Super Mare The Shrubbery is said to have the spirit of a policeman who was murdered there still patrolling from the spirit world and dark shapes have also been seen. There is also the blue Nurse at Queen Alexandra's Hospital and on the Causeway at Knightstone a girl has been spotted running along it only to pass through people and disappear..
** Clevedon Ghostly shadows and figures have been spotted on the Victorian Pier. Dial Hill has stories of a man with a coffin lid and a headless horseman.
** Kilve The Hood Arms has the spirit of a seemingly serene happy lady in one of the rooms.
