they were mostly trying to buy time to figure out how to Save The World™  

All of the animosity is a hoax / they’re still Denver Dudes™

Kol’s animosity toward Damon is still, 10000%, genuine

half for his own sake and half for Jer’s

Kol takes advantage of the fact that Jeremy is a MEDIUM and he “haunts” Jeremy and essentially makes his life terribly inconvenient

inconvenient in that Jer is trying not to let people know Kol is there and it’s getting hard not to laugh at the spot-on observations the original vampire has to make

seriously kol you’re gonna get caught. 

Kol is still hella pissed at the fact that his family spares about zero fucks for him.

“But this makes no sense!” you say. 

you know what else doesn’t make sense? 

“It sucks here without you.” But that didn’t really need to be said. He probably already knew it, they all did. Caroline sighed into the phone, staring down at the printed words on the page of the book in front of her. After awhile, they all seemed to blur together. She’d been at it for hours. Even Elena had given up for the time being. But she couldn’t. Because until they found some sort of reversal for the hunter’s mark, she had to stick with these sporadic phone calls. She couldn’t even see him, because if she did, there was a really good chance that he’d try to kill her, and according to Damon she couldn’t be trusted to fight back if he did lunge at her. “I miss you. Your sister’s driving me crazy. And...I haven’t had sex in weeks.” She smiled, letting out the ghost of a laugh through her nose before she spoke again. “How’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer training going?”

     ‘  dawn’s not here.  ‘   she says with a surprising nonchalance,  her voice resembling that of a calm,  still-watered pond.  she looks nothing like herself:  her hair is pleated neatly back in a straight ponytail and she has...  more bruises than normal.   from what, anyway?   she’d skipped town to get away from fighting monsters, but they always seemed to find her.

She couldn't help but feel proud of herself and of him as well. Getting away from all the weights of that town, of whoever held them down every turn they went. Now there was just open road and possibilities. All those different things that they couldn't have done before. He was always bound to whatever Elena was doing and she was always at the mercy of her brother. No longer. It was also a strange feeling realizing that this was their new present, this was their new current. They could stop when they wanted, go when they chose to and now that they were on their own they wouldn't have to worry about interrupted happiness, would they? Jeremy had been through hell and back and where Rebekah had her own share of darkness everywhere she couldn't see where he had deserved any of it. So she was determined, strangely enough, to make sure his experience was well enough. She'd never been on a roadtrip before and she'd never felt more like herself either after so long since that last daggering.
