--- he should be better at sensing when someone is nearby, but when that someone is bob the stealth pilot, he cuts himself a bit of slack. doubly so when it's the middle of the night, and a rough one at that. " jesus, bob, " his tone is flat, feels off somehow. pull it together, jake. he turns back to face bob, silhouetted in the doorframe of the kitchen, and shakes his head, " no, i didn't have a nightmare. i just can't sleep. " he's shipping out tomorrow. it's no different than every other time. except now, this man bathed in moonlight will be left behind. " just needed some water. did i wake you up? " he steps closer to bob then, slowly, padding barefoot across the cold tile. he's going to miss him. for fuck's sake, he's going to miss him. he reaches for bob before he gives himself a chance to think about it, pulling him in tight and holding onto him. " just thinking about tomorrow. " // @hauntboxed
Sometimes, Bob finds this amusing, being able to sneak up on Jake, but tonight his voice is too hollow, his expression likely flat and grim. It's just a guess, between the darkness of the room and his glasses left behind on the night stand, Bob can't see Jake's expression well enough to be sure.
"Uh," Bob shakes his head. He didn't expect Jake to turn the question around on him; he's not sure what to do with the question. "No, I've always been a light sleeper." A lie. A bad one. Maybe he isn't one to sleep through screeching alarms and asshole roommates, but he can fall asleep just about anywhere no matter the time of day.
And then he's not thinking about sleep or lying - just Jake and his strong arms; missing him and feelings Bob can't, won't, name. Feelings are irrelevant in this little arrangement they set. Mutual satisfaction, that's all.
"You won't be gone long, right," It's half observation, half question.
