This is a story on DenNor that I wrote for hattifnattenjeni

If Norway were to be asked how he felt about his danish friend, the blonde would probably reply with something along the lines of, “Oh, the Dane? He’s plenty annoying and loud.” Most would see this comment as true but still rude on Norway’s part. What they didn’t know was that, truthfully, Norway meant none of it. Denmark was a nice guy, kind and caring. But he was also oblivious to what most saw as obvious. Especially when it came down to how Norway felt about him.

Whenever Denmark was asked why he was friends with Norway, the quiet nation that seemed so annoyed, Denmark would laugh as if it were a joke. “Norge and I are best buds! He’s quiet, sure, but he’s interesting too!” Whenever Denmark would make these comments in front of Norway, he always missed the blush that tinted Norway’s face even the slightest. The Dane always figured that Norway simply didn’t care of his opinion, which was far from the truth.

Eventually, everyone figured that no matter how smart Norway was, he didn’t seem to realize that Denmark truly returned his feelings.

Then again,Norway never really understood much of Denmark’s enthusiasm and emotions so he equally didn’t understand that Denmark had similar feelings for him.And Norway never was really good with expressing his emotions. So, really, it wasn’t Denmark’s fault if he didn’t understand that his younger ‘companion’ had feelings for him. 

So, perhaps, that was why when Norway gathered up the nerve to, rather bluntly, confess his feelings to Denmark, both were shocked. And, to serve as an even bigger surprise, the Dane remained speechless. It was not to say he wasn’t overjoyed at the thought of his Norwegian friend having feelings for him, but rather that he could not bring himself to believe it.

"I’m sorry, can you say that again, Norge?" Norway’s eyes narrowed slightly at the words.

"I know you heard me perfectly fine, Danmark" His words and posture were ones that screamed confidence but on the inside, Norway was anything but. 

"Haha.. Yeah but, are you serious?" When a flicker of hurt made it’s way in Norway’s eyes, Denmark realized the mistake in his wording."No, wait. I didn’t mean it like that I just.. You really like me?" 

The Norwegian more than liked Denmark and, although Norway remained silent, there was a sincerity in his eyes that answered it all.

And then, like the sun shinning through on a cloudy day, Denmark’s eyes lit up, and Norway could swear he fell even more in love with the man in front of him. He stared into ocean blue eyes that hadn’t had a spark in them like this since the discovery of new land back in their viking days. Norway remembered that it was that same spark that had attracted him to Denmark centuries ago, although he’d never admit it.

He forever adored Denmark’s cocky and confident attitude, even when he acted like he didn’t. Truth be told, Norway never knew what to make of the feelings he had for the taller blonde, except wait for the crushing phase to pass. It never did-no- instead it got worse as his feeling intensified. When Norway had decided on telling Denmark his feelings, he expected the worse. But, seeing the way Denmark’s eyes had lit up with happiness, Norway could only assume that his feelings were being returned.

Norway was snapped out of his thoughts as he was nearly tackled down by an all too excited Denmark who, in turn, whispered, “You don’t know how long I wanted to hear those words from you. Jeg elsker dig”

A small smile graced Norway’s face.
