VERY messy thoughts on peter VI and hatchworth / all of the robots' relationships
an important point of reference here is only human. the art accompaniment heavily implies if not outright says the song is about peter:
the song is in reference to all of the robots in the mk-quintessential era of the band, but its mostly a hatchworth song, which i believe is purposeful and heavily contributes to hatchworth as a character; hatchworth is by far the most connected to peter out of any of the robots. only human is about humanity's individuality/complexness, and the robots' lack of. in context of the song art, it's about the robots (particularly hatchworth) caring for peter, likely relating to his blue matter accident and the repercussions of it. they were made for other people's convenience and entertainment, they don't know how to let themselves do much else. they each have their own interests and identities but on some varying level they all feel that obligation to only be what others make them. only human being specifically a hatchworth song is because this obligation is especially visible in him and his relationship with peter.
part of hatchworth doesn't understand the dichotomy of human and robot. peter seems to need just as much help as hatchworth does, and hatchworth seems to feel the same emotions and think the same thoughts that peter does, so what really separates them? he doesn't linger on that thought for too long, but it's still in the back of his mind. all he knows is that he's supposed to serve peter because that's just how it is; peter is the human and he is the robot. he frequently uses escapism and imagination to avoid confronting his problems (mainly expressed in blue portals), he doesnt look at his thoughts on humanity because he was never taught how to or that any of his feelings are important in any way. this raises the question of why exactly this view on peter VI is so prevalent with hatchworth and not any of the other robots. i believe most of his view on humanity/peter comes from hatchworth and the blue ghost: his time in the vault and his view on peter repairing him.
he views peter repairing him as saving him in a way. he feels like he owes almost everything to peter, the obligation to serve and provide for VI is stronger in hatchworth because specifically VI saved him from the vault. a part of it comes from genuine empathy and care as well, he knows what it's like to be broken down and he wants peter to feel the same relief and comfort that he felt. it's a mix of obligation and genuinely wanting to help someone he loves. this is emphasized by peter's exact words being used in hatch fever, the events of blue ghost are very important to hatchworth and entirely define how he sees peter, and likely the world in general. peter VI and hatchworth parallel eachother in plenty of ways. they both have a manmade rule that they've been taught to view as a natural truth; peter having gravity, symbolizing the walter family work, and hatchworth having the difference in humanity and mechanicality. both of them have had some adverse experience with blue matter that affects how they view themselves and eachother, they both can see themselves in the other despite how one of them is supposed to be lesser. neither of them confront their problems because they were raised in an environment that discouraged that and runs off of blind repression and publicity smiles.
