i don't know the whole 'ai em dash' thing has really prompted me to interrogate and justify for myself every single em dash use (i think with less emotionally aware characters/younger or less emotionally mature characters it has become a bit of a crutch for me to indicate that!) and like if i really need that or if theres a grammatically different way to tell the same story/have the same impact. so i guess i feel like -- ultimately as with all change -- as things are lost, things are gained.
