Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura sat in the train car together on their way to Hogwarts. A bunch of Konoha ninjas had been invited to participate in the Triwizard Tournament this year, including their team! Naruto looked out the window at the British landscape. It looked totally different than what he was used to back home, but it was still beautiful.
“Do you think they’ll pick me for the tournament?” he asked, turning to look at his companions. They both looked up at him. Sasuke shrugged and looked back down at his hands. He was playing with a piece of string.
Sakura rolled her eyes. “I think they would pick someone more…” she pondered for a second as if trying to find the right word. “more talented,” she said finally, evidently giving up on not offending Naruto. Sasuke chuckled under his breath at her comment.
Naruto scoffed. “I’m plenty talented,” he said and turned to look back out the window. “I bet they’ll pick me, then we’ll see who’s laughing.”
“Actually,” Kakashi’s voice came through the train car door, which was sliding open. Kakashi entered the train, arms full of snacks, and continued. “The champions are chosen randomly from the names submitted to the goblet. So it actually has nothing to do with how talented you are.”
Naruto sighed. “Whatever,” he said. He didn’t look, but he could hear Kakashi rustling through the armload of snacks he brought into the cabin. Then something hit him on the side of the head. “Ow!” he yelled, turning to glare at Kakashi.
Kakashi didn’t look sorry at all, but he did hand the candy to Sasuke and Sakura instead of throwing it. “Have you guys tried these? British people have such fun snacks!”

The Hogwarts staff had put together a nice dorm for the Konoha students, Naruto thought. Though it had been a little hard to find, between the winding hallways and moving staircases. They had clearly talked to someone from Konoha, because the dorm looked pretty similar to Genin dorms.
Naruto was just coming back from a trip to the bathroom and found that several of the other students were gathered in the common area, talking about the tournament. Sakura, Rock Lee, Hinata, Kiba, Choji, and Ino were all talking. Shikamaru and Sasuke sat nearby, but weren’t participating in the conversation. The others were nowhere to be found. Either they’d already gone to their rooms for bed or they were out exploring the castle.
Without listening to what the others were saying, Naruto proclaimed, “Nobody else better put their name into the goblet tomorrow, okay? I’m going to enter the tournament and I’m going to win!” The quiet chatter had stopped. He grinned at everyone, who was now staring at him.
“What?” he asked, looking around at everyone’s grim faces.
“I think pretty much everybody figured it out over dinner—this isn’t another ninja school,” said Sakura. “This is a wizard school.” She was standing behind Kiba’s chair with her arms resting on the back.
Naruto’s brow furrowed. He’d been so focused on his ramen that he honestly hadn’t paid that much attention to what the Hogwart’s Headmaster—what was his name? Dumbdoor?—or anybody else had said. Even though it was foreign ramen, it had still been pretty tasty. He had been wondering if he’d be able to get ramen here, so it was a nice surprise that they’d served it on the first night. But he was getting distracted.
Whatever Dumbdoor had said, it didn’t seem that relevant to his plan. “So? Who cares?”
More silence. “They’ve been doing these wizard tournaments for years,” Sakura replied. “Don’t you think all the games will require, I don’t know, magic spells?”
Naruto shook his head. They were dumber than he’d thought. “Seriously, so what? They have magic, we have Ninjutsu and stuff. It’s like, basically the same thing.”
Lee made a face. “That’s great for all of you who can actually do Ninjutsu. What am I supposed to do?” He threw up his arms and sat back in his chair.
Naruto shrugged. “Just don’t do the tournament. Leave it to those of us who are confident in our abilities,” he said. His bottomless confidence faltered only slightly when he looked around at the still-dour expressions around the room. “Come on, why do you all look so down? No way are these wizards better than us!” He grinned again and gave everybody a thumbs up. “I’m gonna go explore the castle now. Anyone coming?”
Nobody moved or got up from their chairs. Without a second look, Naruto walked towards the door alone. “Whatever. See you losers later,” he said, practically sprinting into the hallway the second the door was open.
Shikamaru shook his head and let out a sigh. “I will never understand how the kid has that much energy.”
“Kid? We’re all the same age, Shika,” Ino retorted. “But his endless optimism can get a little tiring sometimes…”
The room fell quiet for a minute after Naruto’s departure. Everyone seemed to be lost in their own thoughts. The ceremony was tomorrow. Everyone had to decide, basically overnight, if they wanted to participate in the tournament. And with the revelation about this being a wizard school rather than a ninja school, everyone’s confidence was shaken. Well, everyone except one, it seemed.
Lee was the first to break the silence. “So… is anyone other than Naruto putting their name in?”
Choji immediately shook his head. “Not me. I think I’ll stay out of it.”
Hinata also said in her quiet voice that she wouldn’t be joining, but she thought anyone who did put their name in was very brave. She’d been so quiet in the corner that it was easy to forget she was there.
Kiba shrugged. “I doubt they’d let me bring Akamaru, and I kind of need him. So I don’t think I will.” He reached down to pet Akamaru, who was curled up on his feet. Kiba had chosen the spot closest to the fireplace specifically so Akamaru would be the most comfortable.
“Well I’m going to do it,” said Ino decisively.
Not to be outdone, Sakura proclaimed that she was going to as well.
Lee looked around. “So that’s three if you add Naruto. I would bet anything Neji will, so make that four. Sasuke? Shika? What about you guys?”
Both boys were silent for a moment. “Probably,” Sasuke said finally, playing with a string.
At the same time, Shikamaru said, “Nah, probably not.”
“So one in five chance for each of us,” Sakura said to no one in particular. “Unless those weird sand guys all decide to do it. Why’d they come with us anyway?”
“The Hokage said it would be a good show of unity,” Lee said as he stood up from his chair. “Best of luck to everyone. I think I’m gonna go to bed.”
Choji waved as Lee left the room. Another silence fell over the group. The fire crackled in the center of the common area. As the sky outside got darker, the firelight cast interesting shadows over the group of young ninjas gathered there.
“What they do here isn’t all that different from what we do,” Ino mused, finally breaking the silence.
Kiba scoffed. “In what way? They’re totally different.”
Sakura stood up straight and crossed her arms. “Yeah, Ino. Magic, similar to ninjutsu? You sound like Naruto.” Her contempt was obvious.
Ino clenched her fists and got up from her chair. “I may not like him, but I can agree when he has a good point!” She said loudly. “If someone saw ninjutsu and didn’t know what it was, wouldn’t it look like magic?”
“But, um,” Hinata spoke up quietly from her corner. “We don’t ride around on broomsticks.”
“Or use wands,” Kiba added.
Ino threw up her hands. “You guys don’t get what I’m saying! Or you just don’t want to agree because Naruto said it first.” She stalked out of the room, heading for the girls’ dormitory.
No one in the group moved to stop her. “Should someone go after her?” Kiba asked.
Choji immediately started shaking his head, and Shikamaru said, “Nah, just let her cool off.” Even though he hadn’t said anything, he’d clearly been listening the whole time.
The others nodded in agreement and slowly filtered out of the common room and back to their dorms.
“Do you think any of them will notice?” Kakashi asked as he flopped onto the bed next to Iruka.
Iruka lowered the book he was reading and looked over at Kakashi. “That we’re ninjas at a wizard school? Yes, Kakashi, I think people will notice.”
“It’s not like I lied to them,” Kakashi said, starting to take off his vest.
Iruka raised an eyebrow but said nothing. Instead he just lifted his book back up as if he was continuing to read.
“Okay, so I omitted a couple things,” he admitted. Next the socks started to come off.
“I don’t think you used the word ‘ninja’ even one time when you described our ninja training school.” Iruka replied.
“Well, to be fair there were a lot of questions they simply didn’t ask.” Kakashi rolled over onto his stomach and tried to catch Iruka’s eyes. When that didn’t work, he grabbed the book out of Iruka’s hand and threw it to the other side of the room.
“Hey!” He growled, now meeting Kakashi’s eyes.
“You weren’t reading it. Come on, just tell me everything is going to be fine.”
Iruka sighed. “Everything is going to be fine, Kakashi.”
He hadn’t taken the mask off yet, but Kakashi’s eye crinkled in that way that Iruka knew meant he was smiling. “Liar.”
That smile always got to him, but he tried not to let it show on his face. Kakashi knew him better than that though. He scooted closer to Iruka and laid his head in his lap. “I’ll be pretty busy starting in just a few days, so we really have to make the most of the time we have now,” he said with a sigh.
Iruka rolled his eyes. “Yeah, I can’t believe you get to be a teacher and I have to just sit around and do nothing.”
In Harryto, the ninjas of Konoha come to Hogwarts to compete in the triwizard tournament.
New chapters will be posted on Thursday mornings, anything else will be posted whenever I want.
Yes I know JKR sucks. I have never read Harry Potter and have watched movies 1-4 several times, 5-8 a couple times. I read the first 30-40ish Naruto books growing up but it's been several years and lots of updates since then.
I'm just here to be stupid and have a good time. Please see disclaimers for more info.
