Been checking this house out for years from afar, it's finally on the market and got a chance to see it. Designed by Harry Seckel in 1965 as part of the Woodlawn Terrace development. This house has been owned by the head of the UH Botany Department for the past 50 years and is completely original in the inside as well as the outside, and surrounded by an immaculate garden. In 1954, Harry Seckel wrote a book for #aiahonolulu and the #bishopmuseum called "Hawaiian Residential Architecture." In it, he explained the environmental influences that typically dictate a regional architectural style - isolation, materials, economic conditions, climate and setting. But the only factor that made Hawaii's architecture unique and cohesive was environmental living. "The Islander lives in proximity to sea and mountains of surpassing beauty. He lives near trees, flowers, and shrubbery that are in evidence throughout the year. He lives in an incomparable climate. But he has not yet found the means for fully enjoying all this.
