Might be controversial, but I think the friendship and lavender marriage between Evelyn Hugo and Harry Cameron is more beautiful, heartbreaking and heartwarming than the relationship between Evelyn and Celia.

Iām re-reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and itās hitting differently this time. Funny how books do thatāthey change depending on where you are in life. The first time I read it, it was just a story. Now? Itās like Iām living it.
I used to read this book with my ex, and weād joke about being Celia and Evelynāme as Celia, her as Evelyn. The way Celia loved with everything she had, the way Evelyn fought for what she wanted. We were so sure we understood them, as if we could never end up like them. The love we had was ours, right? Special. Unbreakable.
But now, Iām sitting here, holding the book close, and I realize Iām both Celia and Evelyn now. I see Evelyn's strength, the way sheās learned to guard herself, and I feel that in my bones. I feel Celiaās vulnerability too, her desperate desire to be loved, to be enough. The heartbreak of losing the person you thought would be there forever, it cuts deep. But somehow, even though it hurts, itās also freeing. Itās like finding a part of me I didnāt even know Iād lost, a part of me that was hidden, waiting for the right time to show itself.
I understand Evelyn in a way I didnāt before. I understand my ex in a way I never could. How they both loved with everything, how they carried their scars, how they gave pieces of themselves away for love. Itās strange, but in some odd, painful way, reading this now is helping me heal. Maybe thatās the magic of Evelyn Hugoāher story is a tragedy, but thereās hope tucked in there too. Her strength doesnāt erase her pain. Her courage doesnāt make her any less human.
I donāt know what the future holds. But I think thatās the point. Maybe thatās why I keep coming back to this bookābecause, in the end, itās about surviving our stories. About being okay with the pain, because even in that, thereās freedom. Thereās a recognition of who we are, of who I am flawed, messy, loving fiercely, and still learning how to pick up the pieces.
I still feel her Evelyn. In every word. In every page.
People love to attack Celia for her biphobia but are so quick to forget Harry's racism at the beginning of the book. Both of them learned for the better as the story went on but y'all love to hate on women
