MY POLICEMAN & THE ABSENCE
21.10.2022 - Release date
The release dates are so close and, therefore, the inevitable comparison between Harry's last two projects are giving a lot to talk about and above all a lot of concern, which seems to be the best weapon that his team has.
In addition to Harry's appearances and involvement in DWD vs MP, the team itself has behaved very differently in the pre-launch campaign of both films. Every time DWD put out a trailer (I've lost count of how many) their whole circle shared it, but one of the most contentious moments was using Harry's database to encourage the purchase of theater tickets. The movie was not released on the whole world wide net, however, we all received these emails, why? and what is more important, why haven't we received it for MP?
These steps are only perceived by the fans, why they didn't send another email to maintain balanced and fair conduct. I have been contemplating for some time the possibility that they are looking for a reaction from the fandom. In the end, all the garbage generated around DWD has caused it to be one of the most discussed projects (this article mentions it, but I don't think it's necessary to convince anyone either) this year: good or bad gossip, the controversy is giving them results.
That Mark Boardman with enough confidence to say that Harry's team is boycotting this project because it was H who closed this deal… seems to me at least doubtful for countless reasons. Honestly, someone who is aware of the contracts in which H is immersed can believe that an individual with his experience and his position would sign a contract without his lawyer, without his company, and without his manager supporting him at the risk of everything??? How? Even a respectable director like Michael Grandage wouldn't have it. Not to mention, if Harry's team didn't agree there was a payoff and/or purpose to this movie they wouldn't have gone for it from the beginning.
There are too many things that Harry's team is doing wrong, they will most likely achieve their goals (or not...I don't know), but the perception from the fandom, which is the most important asset for an artist is terrible. I think that on many occasions they rely purposely on sorrow, pity, victimhood and lack of freedom as common vehicles of their strategies to reach the kind hearts of the fans.
The choices, the methods, the exhaustion, the damage, the astonishment, the time period ... followed by a long list of others are deteriorating this fandom's spirit.
Note: I understand the complexity of this industry and especially Harry's position in it; I do not intend to discuss his freedom or the lack of it in this post, because that would be another extensive topic to go into and that requires much more detail, however, I see holes in this narrative and I do not understand what is really going on behind this project.
