“Jungle Crunch” flaunts a multiplicity of modern music styles from the stereo ricochet of the electric guitars to the symbiotic relay between electronic and acoustic rhythm elements. Phantom Phunk’s “Jungle Crunch” is a true timepiece for the Millennial generation. As if incarnating the cross-genre architecture of the Gorillaz, “Jungle Crunch” flaunts a multiplicity of modern music styles which can be felt in just about every corner of the track; from the stereo ricochet of the electric guitars, to the symbiotic relay between electronic and acoustic rhythm elements. This trend persists past the instrumentation, however, manifesting within the vocal layering as well. Featured Hip-Hop artist, Cloud Master (Wayne Price), lays down a crafty performance with hi-speed phrases reminiscent to Andrei 3000, and a lyrical narrative that brings listeners into the sandy trenches of a lackluster war-arena. Yet still, singer/songwriter Hector Alexander makes brief cameos throughout the tune, interjecting eerie vocal lines which package this piece into completion. The overall effect is an eclectic sound-scape within which modern sound is entangled in exotic feel. In short, “Jungle Crunch” is like a cocktail mix of David Bowie and Outkast that transports you somewhere between the ancient past and the present period.

Unsettled yet serene, “Brother’s Keeper” captures the patent sound of Phantom Phunk. The song starts slow, ambivalent even, like a walk with no destination. But as the humming verse melts away the chorus enters a corridor of darker sentiments. Minimal and obscure, the lyrics recount the haunting relationship between choices, open doors, and the unforeseen consequences they produce. The entanglement of acoustic and electric guitars reproduce a throwback to the 90’s sound, but the rhythm section is suave enough to have come from The Doors; suggestive of this group’s trans-generational appeal. First time listeners of this song, pay no attention to its unassuming façade because it is rich with subsurface sensations which righteously percolate as the tune heeds its trajectory.
Brother’s Keeper is a cool, slowed down 70′s tune in the verse and an aggressive jam in the chorus.
