The teacher of the small school on the edge of the Aegean, in the beautiful island of Telendos, arrives daily in his yard from Kalymnos. But when the weather is not good, the teacher cannot approach the small harbor. And lessons cannot be done.
Telendos is an island, very close to Kalymnos. Once, the two islands were united, but a powerful earthquake in 535 AD, separated them. Today, in the years 2018, the tiny islet has two stable fourth-grade pupils at school. And there are seven students in the first and last months of the school year. āPermanent children are two in primary school. The rest are the first three months and the last two of the school season in Telendos, because their parents are working on the island. Due to the tourist season and because we have children who go to high school, we have to move the remaining months in Kalymnos, āsays Poppy Harino.
Poppi originates from Telendos. Her grandfather and her father grew up on that island. Poppi has two children. The older one goes to the 2nd grade of high school and the little one to the 2nd grade of primary school. So they are forced because of the older one, to move to Kalymnos in the winter months because the small island does not have high schools. While for the time they stay at Telendos, the older, goes to Kalymnos for the English lesson. Poppies, apart from a small-scale cook, have become a professor on these months. And as she is telling us: āIām between the kitchen and the books. To help him. It is very difficult, but I cannot do otherwise because of my job. Although that the problems are a lot, we are fighting for the bestā. Ā The positive thing is that there is still a school, on Telendos, as long as there are students on the island. The little humble school of the Aegean will continue to have life.
DAY EIGHT.
Nothing new to report. Phenergan does wonders and non narcotic painkillers have helped the headaches drastically. I woke up around 9 had some coffee and had a burst of energy of nowhere. I could be crazy but maybe itās the medicine working. And also drinking tons of water. If you are not a water drinker I highly suggest skinny girl brand enhancer or crystal light liquid you can squirt in there. I donāt think I have ever have consumed so much water in my life.
I am also happy to announce that I am getting off the drug gabapentin. for those of you who do not know gabapentin is it is a strong non narcotic medication to get off of. Withdrawals can be very difficult coming off of gabapentin or Lyrica. I came off Lyrica cold turkey and thought about suicide daily. Not to mention the fact that my body felt like I was caring cement blocks around all day long. I didnāt get off that for at least 30 days.
Knowing what I know about gabapentin and Lyrica and their similarities I am going to taper off of gabapentin. Not to mention they have me on a dose that is absolutely insane. I was at 3600mg per day of gabapentin. I am now down to 1600mg and will be starting 800mg this Wednesday. 400mg twice a day. Also was on Baclofen for almost a year 20mg three times a day. I am now down to 10mg twice a day.
One week and one day. Go for my first bloodwork this Thursday! Hopefully this reaches someone somewhere going through treatment who need to know they are not alone. If I can help one person, than this blog means something to me, and even if it doesnāt, it has definitely allowed me to her this stuff off of me.
