Madison Square Garden- Charles Luckman and Associates- New York- 1968β (and as a result- Penn Station)β β β β "Any city gets what it wants, is willing to pay for, and ultimately deserves."- a @nytimes editorial from the mid-60's lamenting the demolition of the historic Penn Station and the construction of the current MSG.β β β β Following worries of the historic Penn Station's high operational and maintenance costs, the Pennsylvania Railroad sold the air rights to developer William Zeckendorf, and subsequently the company Graham-Paige. Plans for Madison Square Garden were announced in 1962. In exchange for the air rights, Pennsylvania Railroad received a brand new, air-conditioned station below ground at no cost, with the added bonus of a 25% stake in MSG.β β β β @enwhytj Nosegrind on the double set gap-to-rail, as seen in the 2016 @hardieshardware promo "What Will You Fight For?" πΈ @mmmsherbert #tyshawnjones #faworldentertainment #hardieshardware #nycarchitecture #charlesluckman β (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_kbgBrlBVP/?igshid=1c5cx03wy9kz5
