Last week, I had the most amazing and heart lifting opportunity to work with my sweet friend Andrew (@kramertime) in Camp Indigo’s first virtual camp! . For those of you who don’t know, Camp Indigo is a camp specifically for trans and gender diverse kiddos from ages 4-16, meant to supply them with the space and opportunity to be fully themselves amongst other amazing kiddos much like them! 🤗💚 . With almost 100 attendees on this first virtual version of camp (that is normally held in person in the Bay Area in Northern CA), I was holding back happy and hopeful tears all week long. They had such beautiful things to say and share, and just seeing them feeling comfortable and free to be themselves with each other and all of us as their camp counselors and instructors...Just..Agh. My heart, my heart, my heart. 💚 . I’m stoked camps like this exist today, and would have LOVED the opportunity to attend in my youth. I didn’t learn I was trans and even that being trans was possible until I was 24, and struggled a great deal especially in my adolescence. I wonder at times how different it could have been for me had I known sooner and had opportunities like this to connect with others early on - so I’m passionate about spreading awareness and education and supporting programs like these, and as trans adult, I loved every second with these stellar young ones. . We danced, sang, read books, talked with each other, wore silly hats, wore onesies, dressed in fancy clothes, told lots of jokes and riddles, made protein snacks, exercised together...There were science sessions, art projects, other cooking sessions, parent sessions, and so much more - all with an amazing staff of lovely and supportive fellow humans. 💚 . Sooooo...Looks like registration is already half full for a second virtual week of camp (August 3-7)! Woo!! 😍🙌🏽 .
