My husband is Native Alaskan and I can count on one hand the number of times we’ve talked about race in 5 years together. In fact, I haven’t even shared much about it on here either... Here’s why that’s a problem 👇🏻 ❤️ 53 years ago today, the Supreme Court legalized interracial marriage across the US. Yep, you read that right. Only 53 years ago. Didn’t know that? Me either. That means some of your parents (both mine and my husbands) were born around the time it was legalized or maybe even before. 👉🏻 My husband and I have never celebrated Loving Day and until recently have hardly acknowledged the fact that we’re an interracial couple. ✨ I know us not talking about being an interracial couple regularly comes from a place of privilege. We have not had to endure a lot of the challenges that other interracial couples have. But that privilege doesn’t make it okay for us to ignore it, especially now that we have a son who we want to be proud of being Native Alaskan. 📱 We have SO many reasons to be celebrating today and to be thankful for couples like the Lovings who paved the way for us and so many others to be able to be with the ones we love. So today, when my husband calls from half a world away, we’re going to pay homage to the Lovings and all of the interracial couples that came before them. #HappyLovingDay #lovingday #interracialcouple #madeinmomjeans (at Trophy Point) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBWTWxLggM1/?igshid=1jzbakez6hn72
