A glow to put the sun to shame.

For what was probably the hundredth time that night - and promised not to be the last - Charles adjusted his tie. He was not new to high society functions, let alone the fact that he would be among friends, colleagues from school, people he knew and trusted, but still Charles found himself slightly nervous.

Of course, that had less to do with where he was going than whom he was going with.

Charles checked his watch, smiling as the minute hand ticked ever closer to six - his meeting time with Patsy. Even thinking her name sent a surge of butterflies fluttering through his stomach, brought a flush to his cheeks and a smile to his face. 

There was no use in further dallying, Charles decided, finally leaving his dorm room. A quick curse and trip inside to retrieve the bouquet of flowers he had purchased and Charles could actually begin to walk the short distance to the girls' dorms.

The weather was cool but comfortable, a mild haze of orchids and baby's breath drifted lazily through the spring air, enveloping Charles like a shroud. His heels clicked in time with his heartbeat off of the stone path.

Pausing a moment in front of the residency's front door, Charles took a deep, fortifying breath and fixed his tie once more. The text he sent to Patsy was short and to the point, devoid of the usual overabundance of smileys. 

1) I want to make you smile, though this applies in both public and private.

2) I want to kiss you, and not just on the cheek.

Awesome! I love meeting new students. Did you get settled in okay over the break?

"I did, thanks. I had plenty of time to explore and  get a feel for the place... Hopefully that means I won't get too lost."
