Flower Soaps

I am still enjoying making soaps and have tried to use different techniques in each one so I can learn as much as possible.
Below is a bit more information and some hints / tricks.
Cherry Blossom soap
Lesson 1
Mica Paint
Even before making the main soap, I found that when mixing ‘mica paint’ you don’t need much liquid (either water or oil), I definitely used too much and think that a thicker ‘paint’ would have made for a slightly better result.

Placing an Embed
I wanted the embed to be exactly in the centre of my soap, but ended up with it being a little low. In future I will be more aware of where the embed is sitting within the soap.
Lesson 3
Piping is Hard!
I think I should have let my soap get a bit thicker before piping, I know some people use completely different recipes for piping soap.
I think if I improve my piping technique it would save me a lot of time ‘fixing’ top details.
Eucalyptus Swirl Soap
Lesson 1
Mix Micas to Liquid Before Adding
Especially with Titanium Dioxide this really helps make sure the colours mix evenly and easier than if they were just added as a powder.
Lesson 2
Different Fragrances/Essential Oils Have Different Intensities
For this soap I only used 10ml (less than half of what I usually put in) yet the fragrance still comes through.
Lesson 3
Lining Up the Decoration
Lining up the decoration with where the bars will be cut – this is true of both my flower soaps. On the Cherry Blossom one many of the bars only had a few petals and most of the flowers I spent ages on had been cut awkwardly.
With this soap I needed to make my figure 8’s smaller to ensure each bar would has a swirl on top.
