🎈: describe your style as a writer; is it fixed? does it change?

Please imagine me doing a little dance and chanting PURPLE PROSE, PURPLE PROSE, PURPLE PROSE, because that's the immediate reaction I had here. The biggest changes in my writing style happen when I'm shifting POVs or exploring a structural element of another work -- writing fanfic for The Great Gatsby and A Separate Peace I switched to first person and past tense since those seemed so much like integral parts of how to recognize the POV characters and how to convey their experiences of desire. And sometimes I'll switch to past tense to try and kickstart the writing process when I'm struggling or to achieve a different effect,

- I’ve seen exactly one episode of this show but it scared me too much to continue, it seems like a fun innovation on JJ Abrams-style mystery box tropes and building up character interactions and relationships in an extreme scenario? I’m not sure if it becomes clearer over the episodes/seasons or if it stays bewildering and Twilight Zone-esque but both those options seem cool

- lots of hot people under stress… I’d say I hope they’re all fucking and sucking but it might be a bad idea under the circumstances

- I want to say Aurora Perrineau is also in it? And she’s absurdly pretty

9. A book that was better than you expected it to be: i don't know if i was super shocked, but given that i was pretty meh on the last book of hers i'd read, i was very pleasantly surprised with how much i loved an unkindness of ghosts by rivers solomon, that was pretty incredible

20. Best fiction you read this year: i will scream this book to the heavens for the entire future, as our share of night by mariana enriquez was easily the best book i read this year and i had a REALLY GOOD reading year

I'd heard vague murmurings about a sequel but I'm so confounded about what it'll even involve - the OG film is so effective for me as a one-and-done, I guess Finney and Gwen can have more fucked-up Ghost Experiences??? And I wouldn't be inherently opposed to that, but I feel like what I'd be interested in there isn't necessarily a good match for the franchise-friendly parts of the film. (Definitely the mask but also the titular black phone -- I really enjoyed that being a fully unexplained thing whose role in the Grabber's earlier life is suggested but not unambiguously hammered out.) And on a petty level I really love the ghost kids getting their revenge, and I don't want that to get overwritten with them still being stuck in that basement forever. If I had free rein, I'd love a slightly-later period piece setting with Finney and Gwen older and wiser having to deal with revisiting both the ghost stuff AND the abduction stuff -- my gold standard for "former child medium" stuff is always Ben Fischer in Hell House -- with that mix of adult perspective and the way horrible childhood shit can make you feel thirteen years old all over again.
