Personal: Finals (Part 2)
Oh Lord, what a long day it's been. I really want to go to bed but I'm hoping to talk to my sister first, and while I'm waiting I thought I'd update y'all. (Though I know I'm the only person reading all my personal posts :) I do like keeping records.)
I had two exams today and two projects due. First, my composition project was due at 8 AM, then I had to write my three politics essays from 10:30 to 12:30, then I had an essay and some quote analysis for Post-Colonial Literature from 3:30 to 5:30, and then my Introduction to the English Major essay was due at 5:30.
My sleep schedule's been off for several days (actually, off and on for the past two months :/), so I tried to fix it. I finished my composition and went to bed at midnight. I got some tossed-turned-up sleep until maybe 4 AM (kept waking up too), and then I got back to work outlining my politics essays and studying my post-colonial texts. It took me awhile to wake my brain back up. Then I got breakfast and walked down to turn in my project. I accidentally slept through that teacher's last class, and I apologized, but he was mellow and said it was just fine so long as I turned in the project on time. (He's nice, but sometimes it's very hard to read his emotions. I sure knew when he was mad at me, though. That came through all too clearly. :I)
So I had some time and worked on my outlines some more and then walked over to the computer lab where we were supposed to take the test. My pal 'Phil' (her name's Jessica, she's a sophomore in my future house (Brooks), but we call each other Phil as an inside joke to reference the fact that in a salon in US Lit. we were both Phillip Roth and that's how we met) was writing a song parody of Bye Bye Bye for the bookstore and we all started joking about boy bands and catchy songs. I totally stole one girl's thunder with that "it's Gonna Be MAY" joke. :D
Gosh, those essays were a NIGHTMARE, I was freaking out the whole time. But I got through and the teacher said she really liked my last paper (she says my writing is strong! :D), and at least I can tell that this teacher likes me, because she's really happy that I'm a poli-sci major. I hope I'm in her class again soon. They had pizza (read: GOOD pizza, pepperoni FOR ONCE) at lunch. And then it was back to the room for a ten minute nap (that became a half-hour nap) and more studying and some half-hearted work on the essay.
The po'co test wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, though I got stuck at one point and almost mislabeled a major character's race (good thing I went to the bathroom and thought it over). The teacher left the school a few days ago - she's been teaching us via video chat in New York (she's transitioning out of the school, partly because she just had a baby), and when she was last here, she said something really nice. She said that she liked getting to know me and that I would love lit. analysis class (it talks about dialogues with the text and stuff like that), and she said she'd heard students talking about me and saying that if I wasn't an English major (I am), I should be. I wanted to squeal, but did not. [I'm very emotionally restrained at school, unless I'm tired, in which case I'm overly informal and act like I'm high or drunk or something.]Â I turned in the project a little late with an apology.
And I had dinner with some blond girls and I let my darling hamster run all around the bathroom and crawl on my foot. (She's so adorable.)
And now I am WAY TIRED and I want to go to bed but I need to wash my face first and I'd rather just go to bed. Maybe this time, I'll be able to get my sleep schedule back on track. I have no exams tomorrow and a completely oral one Wednesday afternoon. After that it's just a choir rehearsal, a symphony trip, the graduation ceremony, packing, and HOME!
