Not really. Dante actually quite enjoyed being an assassin, specially because most his contracts were high profile targets difficult to track and difficult to kill - as a teenager eager to prove himself, he enjoyed the challenge. But there were also targets who, for a reason or another, were emotionally/morally complicated to go through.

Being the leader's son and heir to the organization, the pressure (expectations) and the realization that he would at some point have to carry out these decisions started to weigh on him. There's also a whole religious aspect, and cult life is not funny or "haha crazy" as many people might think: it changes who you are, how you fit in the world, how you see it. It's not like he can be a "normal guy" ever again, even for the arguably faulty standards of a place like Night City.

It boiled down to the question: can I carry out my religious and commanding duties if I question divine authority and often apply my own judgment of character on my targets instead of simply fulfilling a contract?
