Random headcanon about blood magic
I was making some research on blood magic for one of my oc and while looking for informations I decided to add some ideas to the lore.
Self-taught bloodmages are less powerful and have more chance to be possess than the others.
Everybody have more or less the same spells at the beginning; the effects will change depending on which others kind of magic they have studied, with which demon they have made a deal and of course how they try to perfect this magic.
Pride and Desire are the most common demons to make a deal with; the first one offer more powerful attack and the second easier ways to manipulate the mind. If peopleĀ āworkingā with Desire will show more difficulty to resist their impulses, the one who are with Pride will have no side effect. However, they are generally, with some exceptions, the quickest to turn into a abomination or to get possess.Ā
Rage demons are the weaker one and while they enable the mage to have more destructive āphysicā attacks, anybody can make the same amount of damage with a little study. The people who make a deal with them are generally young and inexperencied mages.
Envy demons will only propose a pact to the magic user they intend to become and will take their place as soon as they have accepted it.
Because of their need to consume, Hunger demons hardly offer a deal. However, if someone is able to obtain one, every spells which absorb the life force of someone or something will become more efficient and powerful. The counter part is they also demand more energy from the caster. Unfortunately, the mage will start to feel an inexhaustible hunger which will grow with time if they do not satisfy it one way or another.
Fear demons make the most powerful bloodmage, particulary for people who intend to summon and control demons. But to make a deal with them, the enchanter will need to succeed the various trials given by the Fear demon. The people who are able to emerge victorious will however become terribly apathetic. Terror demons are a less dangerous alternative but with weaker powers to offer.
To obtain the help of a Sloth demon, the caster need to look for one and offer the deal themself as the good majority of them prefer to stay in the Fade and have few to none intentions of moving. They are interesting for the mages who have the intentions of using bloodmagic for others things than battle (like for healing or extending their lifetime) by using the life force of others being rather than their blood. The counter effect is that the magic user will require more sleep than average and are easily tired.Ā Ā
Despair demons will target the mages who live surrended by few to no hopes, as they can feed on the people who also live here. Should the caster go somewhere else, the demon will break the contract and try to kill them. Once the deal is made, they will allow the user to control peopleās mind more easily, but their body temperature will be lower.Ā
