Yep. Same.  I tuned in to hear from the cast and crew who made this thing I love.  Not for George W. Bush and Paul Ryan OR JIMMY FALLON WHY.  While i recognize that some of them might have a place (NOT JIMMY FALLON THOUGH), it should have been minimal and not at the expense of hearing from the cast.

And the parts that did were great! 

But to me, the inclusion of some of these people seemed to be celebrating the history more than being critical of it, which the musical feels like it is, you know?  In that way, the doc and the musical didn’t match with their messages.

To me, the doc was like “Hamilton was super great and let’s celebrate him!”  To me, the musical is trying to be a lot more critical of our history while also using it to tell stories about people now, in part so that people who THINK the past is so great can understand some of what’s happening in the world today; and also give a voice to those forgotten people (does the musical always accomplish this?  no). 

It’s like this:

The doc has GWB saying Ham was awesome.

The musical should have GWB looking at the face of a POC, seeing Ham’s greatness as he always has, but now recognizing the similar greatness in that POC.

Does that make any sense? 

While I always thought it was obvious Lin admired Hamilton, I never thought his point was to tell Hamilton’s story.  I thought his point was to use Hamilton as a conduit.
