Hi there, its Athena. Welcome to my new Thursday Ask-A-Thon where its basically a Thursday version of my Sunday Ask-A-Thon where I ask ya'll about your wips: Has there been any major changes in a character in terms of how you created them, to how they turned out as the wip went on?
I am here to answer and whooo boy, I can talk about Elijah Venwood.
So fun fact, my original introduction of Elijah actually set him up to be a Seer, prophetic type character who took a complete 180. I had this idea of a white haired young man with a Crow who sounded a little off, but he was pretty wise. We've all seen that before, right.
Well, Half Crown took a different turn, as did Elijah when I actually started writing him. He was sparky, sarcastic, and lo' and behold, related to another character?
So within a few lines he changed. Over the course of the WIP he got a lot of depth. Turns out he was a blind assassin with psychic abilities and a bond to his childhood pet crow, Calix.
Well I enjoyed him as a sort of vengeful but snarky brother character.
Then we entered Fifth Icarus, the prequel to Half Crown, where I took a moment to focus on the Venwood's, pre-Half Crown's MC Emris.
Here Elijah really surprised me by taking over the story as a new MC. He was again a complete 180 of himself, and I wasn't ready for it. Innocent kid turned murderer...and I never expected how it would happen, but that's Spoilers. All I can say is, cults mess you up, and if you're thinking it's bc he joined a cult, you are wrong.
So yeah. Elijah is my favorite boy because of all the characters he surprised me the most. He went from loveable wiseman to loveable idiot to merciless killer to sympathetic friend and finally, a vengeful sorrow filled soul. I put him through so much, and well, he took ahold of his own story.
