Derek stands there looking out at the water and takes a deep breath. It’s hot and humid, but a chill still runs down his spine. There’s something peaceful about watching the whales swim together, as a pack accompanied by the rock of the boat. Suddenly there are arms around his waist and a chin on his shoulder.

"It’s beautiful out here, isn’t it?" Stiles asks.

Derek closes his eyes and hums in agreement taking Stiles’ hands into his own. They stay like that for a few minutes until Stiles gets distracted by the whales that have just swum up to the boat.

"Derek, look over here!" Stiles is leaning over the side of the boat again, reaching for his phone to take pictures.

Derek walks over to Stiles and sees a Gray Whale calf swimming next to it’s mother several yards away. Stiles is snapping pictures and talking excitedly about how they travel over 12,000 miles a year. 

Stiles is too busy prattling on about whale facts that he doesn’t notice that another whale is swimming to the surface and that Derek has backed away, until it’s too late. The whale breaches the surface and spouts water as it breathes, leaving Stiles soaking wet.

Derek barks out a laugh as Stiles turns around and narrows his eyes at him. He’s enjoying the way Stiles’ clothes clings to him immensely, until he is suddenly tackled by a wet mass of flailing limbs.

Derek smirks up at Stiles, “If I knew whale watching made you want to jump me, I would have done this years ago.”

Stiles glowers at him, "I can’t believe you didn’t tell me that was about to happen!" 

Derek chuckles and shrugs, “You were either going to fall in or get sprayed with water from the whale’s blow hole, I prefer the latter since I don’t have to jump in and rescue you.”

Stiles waggles his eyebrows and smirks down at him, “I bet you’d like me to blow your hole.”

"I don’t know why I love you."

"It’s because of my great blowing skills."

Derek rolls his eyes, “shut up, Stiles.”

He grins at Derek, “make me.”
