Things that were not currently going in Alaric Saltzman’s favor: It was after lights out, and despite several warnings in the last few weeks, he was not only not in the Gryffindor seventh year boys’ dormitory, or anywhere near the correct tower. And he didn’t have anything approximating a good excuse if a prefect caught him. Merlin, he wished he was a prefect. Well, sort of. Actually it sounded like a lot of work, but…
Things that were currently going in Alaric Saltzman’s favor: He was pretty fast, as a cat. And if anyone saw a cat in the hallways the most that might happen was a lot of shouting. So there was that.
Being this close to the ground was still a little disorienting, but it was fun, too, if he could force himself to resist the urge to chase mice. That was strange, the duelling natures within him.
He scampered around a corner, and found a pair of enormous boots. He backed away, looking up, to find that the boots were attached to legs, and a body, and right up the top, a head: Derek Hale.
He was about to say ‘hello!’ when he realized that was impossible and also a bad idea. Without taking his eyes off Derek, he gave him a wide berth, intending to get out of there as quickly as humanly – or felinely? – possible.
