I don't have a particular idea where Atem would fit in the 18th dynasty, but it's interesting to think of GwD in the context of THAT dynasty in particular because there's a very strange thing that occurs at its beginning. The early 18th is the only time I know of where Egypt's royalty seems to have emphasized the Moon itself as a divine proginator of royalty - just based on the names of the royalty; I've never seen an explanation for why. (2/2) But as for the timeline, I would suggest not changing it. The 20th dynasty fits far better with what we see in the manga (though that’s not saying much, because the manga took some huge liberties). I really don’t think the mangaka had a specific time and place in mind, Atem seems more like a King Arthur figure - legendary and ambiguous of time and place. If I had to, I would say the events of the manga fit better with the end of the New Kingdom than its beginning.(Btw I love your stories).

I KNOW!! And more lunar symbolism is just right up my alley, considering… And I have no direct clue to why the Moon became such a big thing. Maybe it’s that Khonsu was part of the Theban Triad?
But yeah, anyways.
I’ve been on a really strong ‘stay true to the source’ kick for a bit now, which I know is to blame for my need to be true to the timeline as hinted (the reference I found by the by is Isis Ishtar calls the memory tablets 18 Dynasty artifacts) but you aren’t wrong that canon plays fast and loose with its history, anyways. And I DO like the idea of the New Kingdom essentially closing with Atem (even if Set might drag it out for a bit). It fits a lot with the lost details of the time, right? Those intermediate periods, I tell you.
