Apparently it’s been over 4 years since I last posted a translation of The King of Kings text, the previous translation being in Alfinu, a romlang. Recently I’ve decided to revisit the original text and fix a couple of persistent mistakes, and I made one or two edits to make the text sound better. The original post containing the English text (linked previously) will be updated soon.

In addition, I’ve also made another translation, this time into (Modern) Gutiskar (an a posteriori Germanic conlang). This is the second Gutiskar translation, actually, as the first one was into Old Gutiskar. Most of the words from the Old Gutiskar version have been retained in the new version - and they’ve undergone some important sound changes. Some words have changed, however. As you’ll see, Modern Gutiskar is a bit more concise and somewhat shorter than Old Gutiskar (who needs all those unnecessary syllables, right?).

Kyngar Kyngá

Lexember is over and so is 2018. I didn’t have enough time to post here much but I did participate in Lexember 2018 over at ConWorkShop. I participated with just one language, namely Gutiskar, an a posteriori Germanic conlang. Overall it was a very productive Lexember with nearly a thousand new words added to the language, whose wordcount currently stands at over 2300 words. 

So, here I’m presenting a selection of the new words, one or two per day. If your computer supports Runes (I recommend the font Noto Sans Runic), you will see how the words look when written in their native script.

Gutiskar: gehimna [geˈhimna] (n, neut.) universe, space, a collective form of himinar “sky” (from Proto-Germanic *himinaz “cloud cover, sky”; cf. English heaven or Gothic himins “heaven”).

The 29th day of the month of Lexember is upon us! Today’s theme is date night.

Gutiskar: mótla [ˈmwɔtla] (n, masc.) date (romantic), from the verb mótjan “to meet” (from Proto-Germanic *mōtijaną “to meet”) and the suffix -(i)la, which is used to denote places. And while I'm on the topic, I can bring up another word, which is interesting because of its etymology (and its English cognate). bójar [ˈbwɔjar] (n, masc.) gay (person), from Proto-Germanic *bō(j)- “father, brother, close male relation”; and its cognate in English is boy. The adjective of bójar is bójgar “gay”.

Only a few days left! The theme of the 28th day of Lexember is vices, addictions and dirty little secrets.

Gutiskar: sokláða [ˈsoklwaða] (n, masc.) chocolate, borrowed from other Germanic languages.

A little late but better late then never! The theme of the 17th day of Lexember is childhood memories. And there should be pictures from now on, too.

Gutiskar: kunþhæmur [ˈkunθæmur] (n, masc.) school, from kunþur “knowledge” (which is derived from kunan “can”, from Proto-Germanic *kunnaną “to know, to be able to”, its derivation was probably influenced by Gothic kunthi “knowledge” too) and hæmar “home” (from Proto-Germanic *haimaz “home, house”). I had to make the other words too, so here's another interesting one: lubígar [ˈlubjəgar] (adj) magical, from lubjar “magic” and -gar “adjectival suffix”; and lubjar comes from Proto-Germanic *lubją or *lubjiją “herb; poison; love potion”, and is a cognate to Old English lybb “drug, medicine; poison; charm”.

It’s Lexember 26th! And the theme of this day is death and the afterlife. I’ve decided to go with Gutiskar again, since most of the basic concepts related to this theme have already been done in Laefêvëši.

Gutiskar: svultur (n, fem.) death, presumably from Proto-Germanic *swultiz “death”, from the verb sweltaną “to die” (cf. Gothic swults “death”; English cognates include (to) swelter and to swelt).
