Metalic thread sparkles ✨ perfectly. It isn't always suitable though as it has a scratchy texture. #embroidery #thread #gunold #metty #metalic #machineembroidery (at Cedar Designs) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrSFXjAAD7r/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1m0xsrol1rx1u

Why is Embroidery Backing so Important?
Embroidery designs are difficult when done correctly, but attempting to embroider a design with no backing or the inappropriate backing can spell disaster. At Gunold it’s our goal to help you find the right stabilizer for your project. So how do you know what backing is best for your application?
There are a few simple rules of thumb for the backing applications. First, backing is “support” for fabric. When adding to existing fabric it’s important to be stabilized. If it’s not stabilized you risk ruining a garment, producing inaccurate embroidery designs and other frustrating situations. Because of this, you should always use a form of backing when embroidering.
Next, is the thickness of the backing. Typically, the heavier the fabric being embroidered the lighter or thinner the backing you need. This also goes for lighter fabrics needing a heavier application to help support the fabric. If you don’t use the appropriate backing for your embroidery design there could be some major consequences. In the case of heavy fabrics with backing that’s too heavy, it’s common to see bunching. On the other hand if you use to light a backing on a light fabric it’s possible to see gaps in the fabric and possibly even risk pulling out the thread all together.
Lastly, having the right backing can save you some frustrating times when removing it after the project is complete. At Gunold we offer tear away and cutaway backing options in numerous sizes and designs. Our tear away backing is designed to actually tear away. If you find yourself with a backing that doesn’t tear properly you could find yourself with messing strands of backing left after removal or even one way pulls that require tugging. It’s not uncommon for these backing styles to stretch or distort embroidery. It’s important to find a backing such as ours at Gunold that easily and cleanly tears away. When looking at cutaways it’s important to find a product that is both washable and dry cleanable. Typically used on stretchy fabrics, a quality cut away backing can produce crisp designs for materials normally difficult to embroider. When considering a cutaway backing consider the ease of cutting, wash durability and perforation resistance.
When in doubt, contact Gunold to troubleshoot your embroidery application for the appropriate backing for the project. At Gunold we also accommodate conversion requests . We are able to convert most of popular and most used backings into special order for your exact backing needs. This saves you money in the long run on your backing purchases. Contact Gunold for more information on our backing applications or conversion requests. No project is too big or too small. We’re here to help to contact us today.
