So despite the temp ban (it was lifted after an hour or so,) I continued work on the relay and was able to prove that the GroupMe/IRC relay worked. I’d really rather have a cellphone-centric IRC server/client pair that allows a cellphone client to subscribe to an IRC channel via push rather than have to go through an intermediary, but that involves making 3 parts (IRC client, push server, phone client) and this only requires one.
That said, there’s an open question about whether GroupMe’s API is really suited for this kind of work, but in the short term I’ve solved the cell phone comms issue. To say that I’m beyond ecstatic would be an understatement. ^_^
