— considering the time period Httyd is set in and the circumstances and all they obviously don’t . Know anything about age regression LMAOO but it’s okay we can pretend. And this can be set in our little mind palace outside of canon it’s ok ❤️ but what we do know is that both toothless and hiccup are both incredibly intelligent, gentle and kind beings — and they would love you. And have no problems taking care of you n supporting you <3 because I said so. They’re here with me right now confirming this.

— you know the tone hiccup takes on in Httyd 2 when toothless is getting out of the mind control thing? Uses that all the time with you. Unbelievably gentle in body language, in tone, in the way he treats you. Makes you feel undeniably safe and comfortable while still respecting you and not patronising or being condescending to you. loves reading to you or telling you stories about dragons and adventures from over the years — sometimes over-exaggerating a little just to make you laugh, because how couldn’t he? but don’t tell him I told you. He’s kind and reassuring and guides you through whatever makes you nervous — he’s there whenever, whatever you need him for. Both of them are, and he always reminds you of that. Any situations that give you anxiety or make you look to him, he’s right beside you with kind eyes and a warm smile — nodding his head slightly, a silent way of saying I’m here. I’ve got you. Everything is going to be okay.

— Him taking care of you while regressed means going on fun adventures that teach you a multitude of things — the importance of kindness and safety, everything there is to know about dragons, having respect for the beings that inhabit the world — while him and toothless keep two pairs of keen eyes on you, making sure you’re safe and healthy and comfortable the whole time. Holds your hand for balance while you walk along fallen trees, makes sure you eat and drink enough (even if it’s hard for you. he’ll be there as long as it takes, and won’t make you feel embarrassed or ashamed regardless of your relationship with food.), always carries an extra cloak and warmer attire (think scarves, boots, gloves, etc) for you just incase you forget or if you insisted you didn’t need them. The second you show signs of getting overwhelmed or stressed, or even if you just seem to have had enough for today, he’s subtly and gently asking you if you’re ready to go home yet — whether you speak or not, he knows. It’s okay.

— likes having you in the forge (a safe distance away from the fire and any particularly sharp, dangerous or scorching weaponry or works in progress though, ofcourse) sitting curled up in the corner, resting against toothless while wrapped up in a thick fur blanket and clutching a dragon plushie of your choice to your chest. (He got snotlout to make it for you. Snotlout did not object.) it makes him happy to have you there — you don’t need to say anything, but he’s overjoyed if you offer a quip or giggle at his continuous rambling, whether about a new species of dragon or adventure or project, who knows. It varies depending on the day, he’s just happy you’re listening and safe. That’s all he wants and more. Toothless makes a soft sort of purring noise here, a comfortable vibrating sensation that’s enough to make you fall asleep if need be — especially if you struggle with that. Hiccup likes explaining or showing his projects to you, and is so so happy if you take an interest: it’s okay if you fall asleep while he explains, though, he’s not offended. Toothless laughs quietly though.

— toothless is… a lot like hiccup, actually. but just a little more playful with you (not to say hiccup doesn’t have his moments, toothless just has more of them). He gets as much joy from your laughter and happiness as his rider, so is always looking for a way to entertain or play with you — “unintentionally” thwacking a villager being particularly rowdy or rude with his tail, stealing hiccups leg from under him, sneaking an apple or bit of meat or fish when everyone’s backs are turned. Don’t worry, he’ll share. Which is nice if you like your food seasoned with a little bit of dragon saliva, I guess ….? Likes running around or flying with you, too. bounding around in grassy fields and flopping onto you when you lay down to catch your breath, letting you put flower crowns on his head. May lick your face, you have been warned. Does not play around when it comes to your safety or happiness though, any immediate threats are thwarted with a low growl and narrowed eyes or a particularly sharp swish of his tail — and anyone bothering you even mildly gets the same treatment. He likes flying with you, most, though — doesn’t do any particularly unsafe or scary tricks while you’re with him, instead softly gliding through the clouds, showing you the soft pinks and oranges that make up the sky at sunset — occasionally warbling softly and looking back at where you rest on his back just to make sure you’re okay.

— oftentimes, though, at the end of the day when you’re feeling particularly tired and soft, and the sun is setting, you three curl up by the fire — cuddling or just being near eachother, neither of them mind. Whatever makes you happiest. If you are in the mood for closeness, though, toothless curls around the two of you — hiccup holding you gently and playing with your hair, mumbling softly about how you are loved, and you are safe, and you are brave and you are kind. while the book doesn’t exist in the Httyd universe, I think hiccup would be a big fan of reading you the boy, the mole, the fox and the horse. No that’s not because I watched the movie the other day and it made me bawl. Don’t ask me about it. Or maybe comfortable silence, or he explains one of his most reject projects again, or talks to you about your favourite dragon, or something stupid the twins did this week — or just lets you do the chatting!! He loves listening as much as he loves rambling, especially when it makes you happy — it could be something you’ve talked about over and over again, or doesn’t ordinarily interest him in the slightest, he doesn’t mind it one bit. He knows what it’s like to not feel listened to or have your words valued, and he makes sure you never feel that way with him. Ever. Either way it’s an incredibly comforting experience and you feel nothing but loved with him <33

— has such an incredibly obvious soft spot for you that the other riders can’t help but (lightly) tease him for it 😭 lets you off the hook for something he would’ve had the twins or Snotlout do chores for the next month for, finds or makes you little trinkets regularly (think making pieces of scrap metal into little charms or carving your favourite dragon out of wood, bringing you a rock or crystal that reminded him of you, making you silly little keepsakes, sketches of various things), talks about you and your accomplishments all the time to anyone who listens (and he doesn’t even realise it! It just comes naturally!! He’s so proud of you and everything you do <3), and watches you doing your thing from across the room, a fond, loving sort of look in his eyes — and though they joke about it, they know he seriously does love you. He’d hang every star in the sky, dragon or no dragon, if you asked him to.

— can’t believe I never brought this up but ?3!,)£?;::?:!?!?&@????! Totally calls you bud/buddy….. I believe he’s preferential to that or kiddo/little guy(one/etc, but little guy is intended to be gender neutral ^_^)/sprout. Don’t ask me why sprout, I can just hear him saying it ok 😭 doesn’t really mind what you call him, he has no real preference — whatever makes you most comfortable, he’s happy with. Overall, he’s just glad you feel safe and comfortable enough to be vulnerable around him, and to let him help and support you. Consistently reminds you of how brave you are for that.

— its actually kinda crazy how attuned to your needs he is. Knows if you’re tired or hungry or overwhelmed, one look from you or even just watching your body language and/or expression and he just. Knows. Very useful if you tend to go nonverbal when regressing !! ^_^ this is going a little off track but I think Valka absolutely adores you too lol. If hiccup isn’t around for whatever reason (very rare) I think she would be totally okay with looking after you when you’re regressed, as long as you’re okay with that of course. Personal hc that she has the biggest soft spot for kids, and wasn’t there for the vast majority of hiccups childhood, so I think caring for you would heal something in her actually 😭😭

— shoutout to all my weird kids out there I am making these headcanons specifically for you so. If you’re a little like he was (and honestly still is), regressed or otherwise, he gets it ; and is arguably more protective over you because of it. he remembers what it was like, before toothless, before the fame and the glory, before he was berk’s hero — back when he was a scrawny little teenager who “couldn’t do anything right” — he remembers how he was treated, how he felt. It’s the last thing in the world he wants for you to be treated that way or feel that way, and he won’t allow it. Any little quirks or habits that you have, he loves them!! And he won’t let anyone make you feel bad about them!! Regression related or not, they make you who you are. Don’t even think abt apologising for them either you will be tickled !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And probably licked by toothless !!!!!!!!!!!!!

— speaking of toothless I feel I haven’t done enough for him so. Playfights with you !! Very gently, obviously, considering how big he is — but he likes booping u with his paws (paws? hands? Talons? Feet? Claws?) and chasing you around/having you chase him. Gently headbutts you or steals something of yours to get you to chase him around telling him to give it back lawl….. also? Hunts for you? 😭😭 a little like he does for hiccup in the first movie, brings you fish all the time. It’s made you a little tired of eating salmon. HOWEVER!!!! By vigorously rubbing his two brain cells together, he miraculously came to the conclusion that you probably aren’t eating the fish he brings you because you don’t like it raw. but aha! Fear not! he’s not capable of plasma blasts for nothing. you now have no excuse for not eating the (burnt cooked) saliva covered salmon he just dropped on your face. Have fun 🩷

— overall, they both love you. a lot. And care for you unimaginable amounts. And just want you to be happy and healthy and safe. Anything you need or want is yours — and they’ll always be here, waiting for you, wherever you feel like visiting :)
