Romeo & Juliet
Guild Festival Theatre is proud to present Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet on the Greek Stage at Guild Park this summer. Like the story of Romeo and Juliet, Guild Festival Theatre has had a year of both joy and sorrow. In 2014, more than 2,000 audience members enjoyed “The Importance of Being Earnest,” Guild Festival Theatre’s most successful production to date. Then, in Spring 2015, the company unexpectedly lost its founder and Artistic Director Sten Eirik, to cancer. Sten had been planning his next production, Romeo & Juliet, for more than a year. The board of directors, staff, and volunteers,came together in an effort to ensure Sten’s vision of Romeo & Juliet - and the continued success of the Guild Festival Theatre - could be a reality.Â

…the sculpture garden consists of various notable rescued facades and ruins from demolished downtown Toronto buildings…columns from old banks…businesses…clubs...
…the park and hotel enjoy an idyllic location close to Lake Ontario...
…but the Inn's fortunes have declined over the years …and as the Scarborough neighbourhood grew urban around it…the property became run down and neglected...
…the park has been designated a heritage property by a Canadian foundation...
…over the years... small theatre companies have staged productions and festivals on the Greek stage at the park...
…it is a beautiful other worldly experience to sit amongst nature and enjoy performing art...
…it is my hope that the abandoned hotel and derelict park can be restored...
…for generations to enjoy...the important cultural significance…of the neoclassical architecture…that once graced the thriving metropolis of Toronto…my home town...
