Hi As someone who has gone through the process of becoming a doctor, would you recommend 7- and 8-year direct medical BS/MD programs in college? Thanks
Depends on you. Most of those programs will still require you to get excellent grades and MCAT score and have a certain amount of shadowing. They’re not any easier than the regular pre-med path. The benefit is the guaranteed acceptance if you get all those things. It just puts the burden on you in high school rather than in college (to get into such a program). It’s great if you know that you want to go to medical school. And I suppose that you can drop out if you change your mind. I probably would have done it if my school had such a thing. But I don’t think I would have picked a particular school just because of one of those programs. I really enjoyed my school and a guaranteed acceptance wouldn’t have been worth it to me if it required me going to a school I didn’t really love.
