Medieval German artist Albrecht DΓΌrer lived in this house in the heart of historic #Nuremberg Albrecht DΓΌrer from 1509 to his death in 1528. 'The House lies in the extreme north-west of Nuremberg's Altstadt, near the Kaiserburg section of the Nuremberg Castle and the TiergΓ€rtnertor of Nuremberg's city walls. Since 1871 the Albrecht-DΓΌrer-Haus has been a museum dedicated to DΓΌrer's life and work. In a restoration of 1909, the large dormer on the east-facing roof was replaced. (Compare the earliest known engraving showing the house, from 1714 with this photograph taken between 1860 and 1875 with this postcard from 1909. ) In October 1944, it took significant damage from Allied bombing. It was rebuilt by 1949, but did not reopen as a museum until 1971, DΓΌrer's 500th birthday.[2] The museum features installations of period furnishings, a re-creation of DΓΌrer's workshop in which visitors can view demonstrations of printmaking techniques, and rotating exhibitions of drawings and prints by DΓΌrer from the City of Nuremberg's Graphic Collection. [I had a go at printing on the traditional press and produced a copy of DΓΌrer's 'Portrait of Emperor Maximilian I!] Visitors can also receive a guided tour of the house from an actress playing Agnes DΓΌrer, the artist's wife.' It's asparagus season here in #Nuremberg and white's the new green! Not sure why asparagus grows white here but it's VERY popular. Every Market stall sells if in the short season and there are even pop-up Asparagus Stands round the city. #gtm17 #bavaria (at NΓΌrnberg Centrum)
Vibrant tulips zing in spring sun outside #Wagner's House in #Bayreuth @π Spent a busy morning on whistle-stop tour of this historic city. Easy to see why Richard Wagner found inspiration here. He's buried in the little garden with a simple marble slab covering his grave. It's unmarked - said people would know who he was. He was right! Quirky #Travel Tio: this lovely town is much more than the Opera Festival. Many beautiful Baroque buildings and palaces. Well-worth staying for a couple of days. Wish I'd had longer. #Bavaria π #gtm17 #germany (at Bayreuth, Germany)
