General dynamic

Sydney is the calm, grounding presence for both of them — she’s learned that sometimes they both need comfort in different ways, and she’s patient with that.

She never pushes them to regress; it just happens naturally when things get overwhelming or stressful. She always reminds them that it’s okay to feel small.

Their home has soft blankets, plushies, and sensory-friendly lighting — a space that feels warm and safe, not clinical or infantilizing.

Madison’s regression

Madison tends to slip into a toddler/little kid mindset when she’s stressed or anxious. She becomes quiet, curls up in Sydney’s lap, and fidgets with soft toys.

Sydney helps her with grounding — soft brushing through her hair, holding her hand, and gentle affirmations like “You’re safe now, Maddy. I’ve got you.”

She loves storytime. Sydney reads picture books aloud, sometimes letting Madison turn the pages herself.

Her comfort items: a plush bunny, pastel-colored blanket, and a cup of warm cocoa (with marshmallows, of course).

Gabriel’s regression

Gabriel’s regression is very subtle at first — he won’t admit he needs comfort, but Sydney notices the signs: he goes quiet, curls in on himself, and gets defensive.

When he does allow himself to regress, it’s more like a little protector who finally lets go. He might hide behind Sydney’s shoulder but still watch everything carefully.

Sydney always makes sure to talk to him calmly, using gentle tones. She might say, “It’s okay to rest now, Gabe. You don’t have to fight anymore.”

He likes quiet activities: fidget cubes, sketching, or sitting with Sidney while she taks. He doesn’t need words — just presence and safety.

Together

When both regress, Sydney turns on a gentle cartoon, gives them a blanket pile on the couch, and just lets them be.

Madison will often grab a plushie and let Gabe take control to play with it like it’s an unspoken “you’re safe here too.” He’ll accept it after pretending to be annoyed for a second.

Sydney makes them snacks — apple slices, crackers, juice boxes — and sits with them while they eat, humming quietly.
