You know, I don't actually like Sean's fighting style at all. I think it's boring and tedious. But the funny thing is, the fact that his defensive, practical fighting style is uninteresting is exactly what makes his public persona interesting. I believe that most people tend to fight in ways that align with some aspect of their values and personality and this totally recontextualizes the things he does outside of the octagon. He's known for having a crass and aggressive persona, but it's literally all defense. Sean conceptualizes every aspect of his life through hard boundaries and is terrified of anything that penetrates them. The serious political opinions he expresses, like his criticism of Israel or his seething hatred for "wokism", stem from an anxiety that his country (and it's values) is "compromised" rather than a genuine concern for the lives involved. He commonly justifies his gun ownership as a means of self-defense. 90% of the dumb shit he says, like that "owning a bidet is gay" or "posting his wrestling videos is gay" are just ways he tries to defend his image of himself.
All this to say that Sean comes across as someone who indulges in a humorless practicality. All he is trying to do is protect himself and what he views as an extension of himself—his masculinity, reflected in his nation, his possessions, his behavior. This makes him a paranoid person. He is making decisions and watching his own decisions through the eyes of an onlooker. He is a man with another man inside of him. Not only is that semantically gay, that self-objectifying gaze is typically associated with how women are taught to police themselves (see the famous Margaret Atwood quote). Sean thinks like a woman. In his attempt to defend his masculinity, he is self-defeated.
