Griddlebone Appreciation Post!
It is Griddlebone day! This is for the “jelliclequeens2020″ hashtag! Original post here. Now it is time to discuss our #1 gal!
June 6: Griddlebone.Â
What do you love about this queen?: Her attitude! Griddlebone has a lot of sass and I adore it. I love that you can tell she doesn’t really like Growltiger all that much, she just likes the attention she gets from him and the audience. I really enjoy when she scratches Growltiger when he’s trying to belt that one note in In Una Tepida Notte, I think it perfectly encapsulates her disdain for him! Her design is also very cool, I especially love the versions of her costume where it’s like, 90% fluff lol. Overall, she’s just a fun character to watch!
What is your favorite version of this queen?: Out of the ones that I’ve seen, I’m gonna go with the 2005 Moscow production! Some close seconds would be the 1989/1990 Vienna production and the original Broadway production!
Who is your favorite actress that played this queen?: Oksana Kostetskaya from the 2005 Moscow production, but I also love Bonnie Simmons from the original Broadway production!
What is your wlw ship with this queen?: Griddlebone/Grizabella! (Griddlebella? Grizabone?) I don’t remember who or where exactly, but I saw a post some time ago about this ship (I think it was a headcanon for the 2019 movie on why Griz was banished). I thought it was a really cool concept, and even though it wouldn’t really work in the stage-show since Griddlebone is a fictional character in that universe, I still find it very interesting!
Your favorite moment of this queen in the musical?: When she pushes Growltiger down so she can sing in the 2005 Moscow production. They use Billy M’Caw for the lover’s duet in this version, and in the middle of it, Growltiger is about to sing the chorus, but then Griddlebone shoves him to the ground and she starts passionately singing the chorus instead! I love this particular moment, part of it is because I prefer Billy M’Caw over In Una Tepida Notte, but I also just love seeing Griddlebone get her moment to shine and express her sass, especially if it means shoving Growltiger lol. Of course, my second favorite moment would be the one I mentioned earlier, where she scratches Growltiger during In Una Tepida Notte, I’ve seen quite a few versions include this moment but I really like it in the 1989/1990 Vienna production in particular!
