do you have an owen ref :3 i ADORE the way you draw him
First of all, thank you so much! That means a lot, especially since Owen is probably one of the designs I struggle with the most-
I'm unfortunately not usually the sort of artist that puts together references (which I would honestly like to try and do more often - a lot of the time I just jump straight into drawing and work the design out as I go, which works but isn't great for consistency in the beginning stages).
But I did throw together something quick for you, since you asked! (As well as some Owen songs because I was just - in the mood to do so while making this).
Keep in mind - I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil, but I did not go to school for visual art, so some if not most of my process is probably a little vibes based. However, there are usually some things I keep in mind while drawing Owen:
In terms of face shape, I go for a long, narrow oval with a slender, downturned nose. The eyes are rounded and sunken, and when oriented on the face have a bit of a slope downwards on the outer sides. Irises/pupils (if you draw pupils, I usually don't-) are obviously big, dark and beautiful, as dictated by the source material. His hair (which I've coloured to hopefully provide visual clarity) is dishevelled and wavy, nothing new (buddy does not take care of his hair-) We're talking matted, we're talking greasy, we're talking lots of frizz and flyaways. It's this balance between soft waves and the more angular greasy look that often gets a bit inconsistent, since in my mind his hair is just a bit of a tossed-around mess, but the general shape above is what I go for, with the two framing pieces on either side and the chunky waves. (When not facing directly forward, you can also see that I'll sort of merge the pink, purple and green sections on the farther side, which honestly I just do cause I think the shapes look better). I also made a little section in the top right for how I do his hair when it's tied back, but I basically just separate the bang section from the rest.
I don't go into colour or clothes, but hopefully that was helpful or interesting, and not a painful read for any studied artists - definitely not great at explaining my process, but it works for me, and I'm glad people have liked how I draw the characters <3
