The urge I have to make a Shigadeku animatic for Kid & Leveret is INSANE god I wish I could draw
Bringing over some twitter thoughts
Video, for context:
Okay I'm back from Iron Lung, and I only have one gripe this time! It largely met and exceeded my expectations!
Howeverβthis movie is not very hard-of-hearing friendly π I could only hear half of what was being said. I don't know if it's just the fact that I have auditory processing problems or the theatre had the volume turned too low or maybe even both, but it's really hard to follow a storyline that's being expositioned through conversation when you can't hear half of the conversation :'3
What I COULD hear though was great. I really loved the Convict's character arc and the flushing out of the original worldbuilding, while still leaving enough mystery to keep things frightening. I do, however, expect a sequel. Not just because I liked the movie but because wHAT DO YOU MEAN. WHAT DO YOU MEAN. I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS.
Idk maybe I'm biased but this movie did for me what Weapons couldn't, which was give me an intriguing mystery, get halfway to solving it by giving you some but not all of the answers, while still keeping the intriguing part of the mystery. Plus I really like the fact that it makes you think. I like movies that let me obsess over and speculate about the worldbuilding, which was done really well here. However that seems to be a matter of opinion, given that my family went with me to see it and most of them hated the fact that they weren't handed all the answers π My mom specifically said that she didn't like that the movie forced you to feel the Convict's confusion and frustration WITH him, which was something that I actually really enjoyed and felt pulled me in.
There were a few scenes that felt kind of campy to me, but eh, it's a horror movie. You're gonna have that here and there. No spoilers but the scene at the end where the Convict is T-posing felt a little too much like it was for shock value. It didn't seem to have any narrative purpose, but againβsci-fi horror movie. Sometimes you need to have fun with it and suspend your disbelief. I still don't fully understand what the seabuilding ACTUALLY meant but I like that it gave me enough to make an educated guess and to speculate. Again, the things that I liked most about the movie were the things my family did not enjoy lmao.
I DO feel a deep need to rewatch it with subtitles though. Please for the love of God give me subtitles.
I'm going to go see Iron Lung tonight and I've been seeing very nice posts all day about it, but the open hostility from Hollywood AGAIN is just,,,,SIGH. Watch them try to frame Mark for something now to get him cancelled 'cause they're pissed off he's beating them at their own game.

Jesus Christ you'd think the apocalypse was coming the way everybody in here buying water and bread
I thought I had good alcohol tolerance but I had ONE (1) candy margarita glass and dude. Holy shit. Why is my brain in the microwave
Just watched the latest BNHA episode and. Hm.
I don't like that they changed All For One's backstory to make him more evil. That they altered it just enough to erase any semblance of humanity that he was shown to have in the manga. Which feels pointless and upsetting to me, because it's ALL FOR ONE. HE DOESN'T NEED TO BE MORE EVIL, HE'S EVIL ENOUGH.
Idk it feels like a cop out. In the manga, it's implied that All For One is largely a product of his circumstances, like Tomura was. In the anime, they took away even the smallest moments of affection and vulnerability from him, to make him seem Born Evilβ’, which was ALREADY SAID TO BE THE CASE. I don't agree with that sentiment but that's neither here nor there. All For One is NOT a sympathetic villain. A snapshot of him carrying Yoichi in his arms down the street wouldn't have suddenly made him redeemable, or even relatable. Idk, it just feels gross.
My inner conspiracy theorist kinda wants to come out and blame the censors (AGAIN) for fucking it up because we can't have people thinking that villains are people, OBVIOUSLY, even though that's literally the entire plot of this series. Which also is (conspiringly) why the ending sucked. Fuck the main plot point, right? We're gonna go with some fanfiction shit instead π About this OTHER plot point that was only 10% of the story before ππ Because obviously the people watching will turn evil themselves if we show villains being human or getting redeemed or even living on after the fact. Can't have that.
