He finds out as he’s out taking a bounty in rock city. His reaction was basically "I’ll believe it when I see it." When he does see it, he’s conflicted. He’s glad that they don’t have to live in danger or fear, but at the same time he can’t forget what they did and what if this is some sick joke, a trick.
