Repost from @pacalin using @RepostRegramApp - Many of us have grid fins on our minds after the calculated ocean death of SpaceX’s Hispasat booster yesterday, which was fitted with a valuable titanium set. The first stage was was set to attempt a difficult landing, but dangerous seas made the maneuver impossible, and OCISLY remained at port. This flashback clip at Hawthorne HQ from August 2016 shows workers fitting the original fin design onto the first-ever landed booster (F9-021), in preparation of erecting the monument onsite later that day. This booster had carried 11 Orbcomm communications satellites into LEO 8 months earlier, on December 22, 2015. Hard to believe it’s been just over 2 years since that historic day. #spacex #falcon9 #gridfins #rockets #hawthorne
