A Sweet Reward
Cupcakes remind me of childhood.
Imagine Prep Surprise’s high school and middle school campus recently formed a partnership with Smallcakes Surprise to honor good citizenship and random acts of kindness.
The “Smallcakes Student of the Month” is chosen by Imagine Prep Surprise staff at the end of each month. Their reward? Aside from that “feel good feeling,” the two selected students get the opportunity to personalize a cupcake of their very own.
They choose the flavor of the cupcake, the frosting and get to finish it off with a wide selection of toppings. Their creations are up for sale every Wednesday.
When the student of the month cupcakes aren’t available, Smallcakes is known to bake and frosts 12 signature flavors every morning.
Some fan favorites include: wedding cake, cannoli, cookies and cream, choco-holic, peanut butter cup, lemon drop, fat Elvis, red velvet and hot fudge sundae.

Chelsea’s Favorite European Hostels
Starting off with my favorite city on this list, which is a one-of-a-kind place that leaves you with a feeling that cannot be replicated anywhere else. Paris is where I was able to stay at my first Generator Hostel, though I had been stalking the amazingly aesthetic photos of their instagram profile for years prior. Next is Madrid, where the OkHostel provided my friend and I with the best front desk customer service I have ever experienced, which was much needed after a long journey. The activities and dining offered made staying social almost effortless. Moving along to London, where I have frequented the SoHostel more times than I can count, mostly because the location and price combination cannot be beat. But the best part is that they send the profits to help fund a homeless hostel in London. Another gem on this list is the small but chic Neapolitan Trips hostel that is nestled upstairs in a classic Italian building, and offers a cheap bar and a kitchen filled with basic pasta and tomato sauce for a quick meal. This Naples hostel was the perfect midpoint in between Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. Last, but certainly not least, is the Stayokay Amsterdam Oost (Zeeburg) that is unique because it is housed in a historic building that was once a school. It is a tough choice because I have been surprised by how modern and hotel-like most hostels in Amsterdam are in my experience, but the transformation that created the Stayokay was what I noticed to be the most impressive. Nine (Of Many) Concert Highlights
I attended my first concert at the age of 12 when I saw Selena Gomez during her “We Own the Night” tour in 2012. However, my first truly memorable concert experience happened two years later in 2014 when my favorite band at the time, 30 Seconds to Mars, played in my city. I remember every detail perfectly. I was only a few feet away from Jared Leto and it was pouring that night. The rain destroyed my boots, my phone and gave me a cold but if I could relive that night again if I would in a heartbeat. Two years later, my dad took me to see Boston, a popular rock band from the ‘70s and ‘80s. It was a unique experience because they’re the oldest band I’ve seen live. About three months later, I went to see 5 Seconds of Summer during their “Sounds Live, Feels Live” tour with my best friend. We had originally bought lawn tickets for $25 but a lady was nice enough to give us tickets near the front and there was no way we were turning those down. One year later, I bought last minute tickets to see Waterparks at the Van Buren in Phoenix during their “Made in America” tour. This was the first of many small venue concerts I would attend in Arizona. Two months later, I attended Neck Deep’s “The Peace and the Panic” tour a few days after my birthday. I will never forget my phone getting knocked out of my hand after two guys in front of me started fighting each other. About six months later, I bought VIP tickets to see Underoath during their “No Fix” tour. I was able to meet each band member, get autographs and attend a soundcheck. Dance Gavin Dance was one of their openers and i still remember the insane moshing and crowdsurfing that began once they got on stage. That same summer, I attended the last ever Vans Warped Tour, which was both exciting and emotional. I saw Palaye Royale, State Champs, Waterparks, We the Kings, The Amity Affliciton, 3Oh!3 and Simple Plan. The last concert I went to was Sleeping with Sirens in July. It was the first acoustic show i went to and I was second row! Monica Urriola

Guitar Guru
Although I am still attempting to learn how to play my acoustic/electric Fender guitar, I have always had a fascination with how guitars look and sound. Two years ago I visited my dad’s cousin’s business History For Hire where I was able to see a multitude of guitars, even one Dolly Parton played. I also visited The Beatles exhibit at The Grammy museum and was able to see George Harrison’s and John Lennon’s electric guitars, as well as Paul McCartney’s bass guitar. I got really into The Beatles one summer and was OBSESSED with how they manipulated the guitar’s sound. In their song “I’m Only Sleeping,” the guitar is reversed to add a dreamy effect. Although this could not be played live, the recorded version showed how innovated The Beatles were. My boyfriend has a vintage Fender Stratocaster and it reminds me of classic rock ‘n’ roll such as The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix when he plays it. Being a music journalist, I am surrounded by music and am so intrigued by guitars. The ability to play six strings or even 12 strings and create different chords and riffs amazes me. I hope one day to be able to play more songs on the guitar, not just one riff from “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath.
Memories Don’t Die
In January 2016 I went with one of my best friends to see Ellie Goulding, one of my favorite pop music artists. She was amazing live, and I told myself that night that I would start going to more concerts, no matter how big or small. In October of 2016 I got to see one of my favorite rappers, ScHoolboy Q, up close and personal. After that, I saw Tory Lanez with a couple of my friends and got to touch his shoe when he walked over the crowd. My concert genres took a sharp turn after that one. I got to see Sharp/Shock a when they opened for The Interrupters and SWMRS on their last tour. In the Summer of 2017 I saw the band WAVVES with two of my best friends and got to see them get on stage along with 100 other people in the crowd - only to break the stage, and end the concert early. Fast forward to 2018 and I saw one of my favorite R&B singers, Marc E. Bassy on Easter Sunday. In June I saw New Found Glory for the fifth time with my friend, a tradition that we have had since Sophomore year of high school. Fast forward a couple more months and we arrive at August, where I saw J.Cole with my boyfriend after years of wanting to see him perform his old music live. Finally, I saw my idol Shakira just a couple weeks ago, and I cried. Hard. Overall, the i don’t think I will ever regret the countless hours standing in the crowd, getting home past midnight, and waking up to go to school or work the next day, just because I went to a concert. These are memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Carla Maldonado
San Antonio: Where the grass is greener
Last year I made the 13-hour drive to San Antonio. Expecting a desert similar to the one I live in, I was pleasantly surprised. The western side of Texas was lush in tall, bright green grass and arching trees. Of course, the San Antonio River that runs through the city feeds all the fauna in the area to help it grow. The River Walk is probably among the best well-known sites in SA. Aside from that, the Missions also draw a crowd. The Alamo may see the most visitors, but I was attracted to the ones outside of the city like San Juan and San Jose. My favorite getaway spot in SA had to be Brackenridge Park. I sent hours walking through the trees and taking photos. I would end the day by watching the sunset from a highly recommended spot by locals - Eisenhower Park. Nikole Tower
