Top 5 Smaugust 2024 days for me
1: Day 4; Medieval - Old Scratch
Very much inspired by renaissance art of the devil, which depicted him as a dragon, and as a green demon. The devil used to go by a lot of different names, but my favourite had to be Old Scratch.
2: Day 7; Deity - Hlal
This version of this minor deity in the dungeons and dragons universe is based on the backstory of the campaign I've been running for around a year and a half now. After an event known as the time change, the balance of power in the forgotten realms shifted to focus entirely around draconic deities. The messenger of Asgaroth was deeply altered in the events of the time change too.
3: Day 20; Snack - Baby Want Snack
This one is inspired by john blanche, who did a shitload of dark fantasy art and particularly a lot of the really foundational work for Warhammer. It's also somewhat inspired by dark souls, with the big eclipse silhouetting the dragon and it's unfortunate victim
4: Day 22; Deep Sea - Abyssal Dragon
This is one of my favourite dragons from my original setting, the Faeworlds. I'm currently writing a novel set in that universe, which is what the #Greyvale tag on my blog is for. The Abyssal dragons aren't directly involved in THIS one, but it's the kind of thing that might well have an impact further down the line. Also, fun fact, this Abyssal Dragon is likely a descendent of Chissiqathar, who was the subject of Day 28 (Titan).
5: Day 24; Radiant - Adult Stormrise Dragon
This is another dragon from my Faeworlds setting, and this one is an adult version of the same kind of dragon as Rebecca, who is featured in Greyvale, and also the subject of Day 8 (Beach). Despite its somewhat similar vibe to the Abyssal Dragon and Chissiqathar, this dragon is descended from Shahegmethor, the Dark King. It's kind of a preview of what Rebecca may one day develop into, although with her own Ancestor being a quite different dragon, she'll have very divergent traits too.
I hope y'all liked my art this month. I'm trying to learn how to get the most out of the apps I use, and I'm finally in a place where I feel comfortable enough to really experiment. I hope you like whatever I do next, too.
