Greyless became a priest when the previous priest in training for his sect was. Killed. For fucking up too much. And Greyless was really good and really fast at memorizing text and hymns and rituals. Obnoxiously good - which while Greyless’s landlord was kinda proud that this dumbass he brought in was quite good at it but the head priest was. Surprised. And a lot of the other cultists were both surprised because the last underling priest was incompetent as fuck but also... who learns this shit that fast? Why?

And then a chunk of the cult found out Greyless is a fucking weirdo who’s way too interested in their god, and suddenly everything made sense. And while it was a GREAT weapon to hold at Greyless none of them are about to mock him for it or say anything about it because that is probably a great way to be smited. 

So while Greyless is doing a great job at being a priest and leading all the religious activities like 1/4 of the cult is sitting there uncomfortably knowing that Greyless has this all memorized and is this dedicated to being a priest because he wants to bone their god.

Like how do u deal with your head priest making heart eyes at your lich god. Nobody in his cult or that he’s ever worked around are ever good people but anyone who catches on to Greyless’s shit thinks he’s absolutely disgusting. Between just being Weird and being that both polite and sinister while being disgustingly sugary about how he says anything about Vecna. And Greyless probably leans too much into how revering he says any honorific. Everyone around him wants to slap him for it.
