Had this idea from one of @gemini-sensei recently Hawk/Gremlin!Reader posts. I thought this would be cute.
Every sense that day they had been a inseparable couple.
For the first few weeks they tried their best to keep the relationship a secret from the others. It was easy for a while, Miguel and Sam rarely questioned why the two of them hung out together. He was keeping Reader busy in their eyes and that was about it. It was pretty normal that Hawk was to be on watch duty for the girl. Reader was still as random and weird as usual and Hawk was till as cocky and pissy as he normal was.
It wasn’t until they decided to tell them after almost being caught making out…under one of the decks at the dojo. Reader simply popped out from under it when they where on break from class and dragged him under for a quick make out session.
It was all hot and giggly until Sam and Miguel decided to have their own little moment right outside where they where hiding. They knew they had to tell them at some point now. It was only a matter of time before they figured it out anyway.
Telling them was easier then expecting but the reaction was comical.
Sam didn’t seem to question it much at first but as a little time went on she did. The idea of a boy and girl getting together in her mind was completely normal, happens all the time of course. But then she starts thing about who they are talking about. Yeah that is definitely a little out of the ordinary.
Miguel may or may not blow a gasket at the new shocking information. He really cares about and loves Reader but he never thought she would end up with anyone in his direct friend group. He always thought she would end up going out and finding someone just as strange as her. With the news of her going out with Hawk he is in a bit of shock. Hawk always seemed to dislike baby sitting Reader and practically begged him not to make him do it. It had him pulling out his dyed hair every single time. Having to chase her around seemed to always set him on edge. Being told they where dating now? A complete and utter shock. But he did start to see how the two really got on together and it started to make more sense.
Both of them where pretty adventurous and like to keep active. Hawk was more active by routine while Reader was just all over the place because she could be. Both of them liked the same things, similar hobbies and interests, they even tried new things together. That girl always seemed to have the boy on his toes at every minute. It was kinda cute two watch the two do stupid things together.
Everyone was very supportive after they came out to everyone.
Life went by and things changed in good ways as time ticked by for everyone. Friendships and relationships grew, school ended and graduation was done. People took breaks and some went to college, new jobs and life decisions. But for the most part everyone stayed close by. Miguel and Hawk stayed close and even hung out every other week after the both of them got off work and school.
Something big happened one late evening when they where out at a bar hanging out.
“So I was thinking about asking Reader to marry me soon.”
Miguel almost choked on his beer and blew some out though his nose. He coughed and hacked a little which made Hawk squint his eyes and scoff. He tried to catch his breath as he turns his attention back to his friend.
“Wait really? Not that I’m saying I didn’t see it coming it’s just kind soon? I though it would be another year or two before you decided to pop the question.” He wipes at his mouth. Dribbles of beer spilled down his chin a little and onto his shirt.
“I don’t know, it just feels right. We have our own place now and we are already starting to settle down. Life is going pretty good for the both of us and it just feels the the time is now.”
“Have you liked picked out a ring yet?”
Hawk fumbles in his pocket for a moment before pulling something out and placing it on the table. Miguel blinks a few times with a frown.
“Uhhhh I don’t know if that’s exactly what she would want.”
“Your really saying that after knowing her for so long?”
“Ok I take it back, she is going to love it. Just don’t let her put it in her mouth this time-“
“She won’t be able to once I do what I want with it. It’s going to look cool man trust me.”
Miguel gave him a questioning look as he grabbed the item and shoved it back into his pocket. He really wanted to question what he meant by that but decided against it. Both Reader and Hawk where weird in their own little way. It was best to not even try and question what his little plan was. He would just have to hear about it later on.
It was about two months later that Hawk had everyone planned and ready. He made sure every little detail was perfect for when he wanted to pop the question to his girlfriend. He promises to take her out on a trail for the weekend when they where both off. Of course she said yes and went crazy over the idea of getting to go out to the woods and look for stuff. Hawk made sure to bring a huge bag full of stuff then would need. Everytime they went out to the woods it was like going back to a pleasant memory. It brought back so much from when they first started going out together and dating.
After a few hours of walking around, Reader finding a whole bunch of new stuff to add to her collection back home. New rocks and a few cool pieces of wood. In her mind she already knew where she was going to put them when they got back to the house. She giggle as she pulled Hawk along the trail. He smirks at her with all teeth.
“You remember this place?”
“Umm kinda? This is the same trail you confessed your feelings to me right?” She feels her face get warm at the memory. There wasn’t a day that went by when she didn’t think about it. It made her feel all fuzzy for a brief moment.
She had liked Hawk for a while before he confessed. Weeks of hanging out with him when Miguel and Sam where to busy. Over those weeks and months she grew closer to him, but not close enough to show any kinda of true feelings towards him. Deep down she believed that he would never like her like that. He didn’t even like hanging around her from the way he acted most of the time, she saw how he would groan and moan when Miguel would ask him to stay with her.
It hurt but she knew it was true, he just didn’t like her like that. But when that day in the woods happened she felt like she was touched by some saving light or something. The little fantasy she made up of him actually liking her came true when he confessed his feelings. It didn’t feel real.
But then he kissed her and she knew it was.
She almost yelped when he pulled her down next to the stream on the other side of the trail. He lead her over to a shady area. Looking up her eyes gazed into the beaches and leaves of the trees hanging above them. Light slowly seeped though the foliage and down onto them.
“You know I remember what you did here that day. When we kissed down here for the first time.” Hawk said in a more serious tone, his voice low but sweet. She could see the way his eyes glazed a little as he stared at her. She cocked her head for a moment before looking back up though the tree tops.
She didn’t even notice when he lets go of one of her hands and reaches into the bag he brought. He pulls out a small white ring box that fits perfectly in his hand. He smiles as he flicks it open, his eyes only briefly look up at her again. The grin on his lips is huge as he slowly gets down on one knee.
“I know you slipped that rock into my pocket when we where kissing. I found it later when I got home. I kept it you know, in a little box under my bed with a lot of the other stuff you gave me after that. I think it was time I finally give it back.”
Reader’s head snaps back as she says “What? Why would you want to give it back-“ she looks down at him with wide eyes.
“It was a gift to youuu….”
Hawk kneels down in front of her still holding onto one of her hands tightly. The other holding a open a ring box. Inside is a ring nestled inside it.
It wasn’t a diamond ring, a polished stone sat perfectly embedded in the middle of the metal.
“I wanted to give it back to you but in a different way. I have loved this stupid rock for years now because not only was it a gift from you but to me it stands for something completely different. This simple rock stands for you, it stands for the quirky, weird strange girl I feel in love with. She believes giving me a simple rock was the perfect way to show her love and feelings for me. So here I am, giving her that very rock to show my love and feelings.”
“Reader will you please marry me?”
It was silent for a while as everything sunk in for the both of them. Reader felt tears start to come to her eyes as she looked at her long time boyfriend.
Hawk nervously sat waiting wondering if he really did pick the right moment to ask her. What if she wasn’t ready? What if he read all the signal wrongs and it was to soon? He started to anxiously chew at the inside of his cheek.
“Eli yes!! Yes I will marry you!!” She practically yells at him. He’s in shock but is quick to tear the ring from its box and quickly place it onto her finger. She squeals as he put it on her and just stares at it, tears already starting to bubble. He is quick to kiss her. The two of them just stand there in the middle of the woods kissing for a while.
They pull back and Reader just stares at the ring that is now on her chubby little finger.
“If I find you putting it in your mouth I’m taking it back and I’m drawing a fake one on there.” Hawk says out of love as he kisses her full pouting cheeks.
