ALICE IN WONDERLAND BE-IN. Original two-sided broadside mini-poster for an Alice in Wonderland-themed "Be-In" at Independence Square in Philadelphia, held on Mother's Day, Sunday May 14th, 1967 at 12 noon. Illustrated by the famed psychedelic poster artist Greg Irons at a very early stage in his career, just before he move to San Francisco and made his name perfecting the art of psychedelic gig posters. One of multiple hippie-instigated events occurring nationwide in 1967 that attempted to bring light to 1960s countercultural values (including politically liberal anti-war sentiment). Invitees to this Philadelphia "Be-In" we're encouraged to "bring a present for Alice, of yourself, or for anyone!" A supposed 2,500 youths showed up to attend the "un-birthday party," at which 20 people were arrested after surrounding a police car while chanting "flower power!" And showering it with blossoms and food. According to police, "marijuana cigarettes" we're also involved, which would not surprise us in the least.
