P’s & Q’s Grace Gabler page from her Spelling Book, one of the harder to find Puffin Picture Books. It was retro when first published back in 1948 and one of three Puffins she illustrated. P & Q Grace Gabler delightful spread from her Spelling Book, one of three she illustrated for the Puffin Picture Book series during the 1940s. All three of her Puffins are now hunted for by new generations of fans and continue to inspire. Her friend was designing wooden alphabet blocks so Gabler decided to design a book to complement these. Spotted by the HMI inspector, who tipped off Noel Carrington who promptly published it for Puffin. A Child's Alphabet Grace Gabler Soft & hard C. This delightful Puffin Picture Book was designed by Grace Gabler as her exhibition piece whilst at The Royal College in Ambleside during the war and spotted by Noel Carrington. However, contemporary educationalists pointed out that as a teaching aid it had mixed 'hard' and 'soft' Cs and therefore was flawed.
