Grace who struggles with intimacy even when he desperately wants it and Driver who simply wants whatever Grace is willing to give him and doesn’t expect anything more and is content with that.

Driver who is the quiet to Grace’s rambling. Driver who might not say much but intently listens and takes note of all things Grace. Driver who when he says something he truly means it which alleviates Grace’s anxiety and second guessing about what someone actually means vs what they say.

Grace who sees the quiet thoughtfulness of Driver. Grace who sees the intensity of Drivers feelings and embraces him all the same. Grace who is able to explore more intimacy with Driver because of the lack of pushing boundaries or expectations. Allowing him to feel like he has a safety net to explore such things without disappointing the other if he needs to stop/back out. Driver who studies Grace closely and is able to tell when something is too much or makes Grace uncomfortable and already begins to ease out of it before Grace even says anything.

Grace who is deeply intrigued by his new neighbor and keeps thinking about Driver in relation to whatever he is currently doing even though they’ve only had like three conversations but Grace can’t help but think about him and wonder about his likes, dislikes, what he does in his free time, etc.

Grace who notices that Driver is stalking him and instead of being freaked out feels weirdly flattered and knows that this is not a normal reaction but chooses to ignore that fact. Driver’s stalking is protective and attentive and feels weirdly comforting. Grace is worried to about scaring Driver off so he doesn’t say anything about it. He does try to get to know Driver a bit more actively by inviting him to eat at his favorite diner.

Grace and Driver both having bad eating habits end up keeping each other accountable not only for eating regularly but for eating better quality meals instead of eating packs of cheap ramen or microwaveable meals.

Bonus is them getting into the habit of eating together when they can

Driver who feels like he was born wrong and dirties everything good in his life that he touches. Who feels like a stray dog who when given anything remotely good in his life opens his maw wide and bites. Bites down hard. Hard enough to break skin. Hard enough to taste that metallic taste on his tongue. Blood on his tongue. Blood on his teeth. Blood running down his chin. Blood that symbolizes the dirty mutt that should’ve been put down long before now.
